That wasn't quite the same thing as this. Raiden was about marketing to a perceived untapped demographic in order to broaden MGS's potential audience, this is basically Kojima trying to put Soul Calibur 4 logic in to his universe of relatively serious stealth action series. If it were a bonus unlockable or a side feature or something like that it would make sense but this sounds more like he's revising character designs solely so people will say "oooh that's a hot cgi model, I wanna dress up like that hot cgi model"NeedsaBetterName22 said:You're aware that Raiden only exists because Kojima wanted Metal Gear to appeal to female audiences right? Your original remark was about objectifying characters for money...which is exactly what Raiden was, by your own description (i.e. marketing to a perceived untapped demographic through a sexualized male figure). And once again, this is not new. Your 'relatively serious stealth series' includes the Beauty and the Beast Unit, which was redesigned multiple times, each time becoming more sexualized. In fact, the final version Kojima wanted the most (where the women would be naked rather than in catsuits when they got out of their mechs) had to be dropped because of censorship laws. Yeah, Kojima never redesigns characters for sex appeal.LazyAza said:That wasn't quite the same thing as this. It's just stupid. It's like taking Call of Duty and filling it with colored ponies in order to get bronies more interested in the games. lol
Could work quite well if he got a Glaswegian make-over.hazabaza1 said:The main character is Big Boss. That's basically the sexiest of the sexy man booty.Dragonbums said:Don't care.
As long as you balance it out with some sexy man booty.
You mean tweets like this one?rbstewart7263 said:and he said nothing bout selling figures look at his tweets.https://twitter.com/HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN
The initial target is to make u want to do cosplay or its figurine to sell well.
I have no issue with sex appeal, I just dislike that the reason he is doing it is to make more money from merch (and cosplaying, in his defense). If he had said he changed the character design because he loves T&A we'd all be giggling and saying 'Kojima you little rascal! '. And it makes you wonder what else will be changed to make the game more profitable, like will there be a talking dog sidekick and a large number of collectible pocket sized monsters that Snake must collect in their entirety to become a Metal Gear Master. Plus an anime series, which probably would be funny to watch if I'm honest.The_Echo said:Oh, c'mon. Sex appeal has been in Metal Gear since Solid 1.CriticalMiss said:One more franchise to not be interested in any more
I think he is, especially after all the feminism/sexism etc in games forum stuff we have had on here recently. I think the idea for me is, why just make a character erotic just for the sake of it? But then Quiet is just a girl in a bikini.....yeah no girl has ever worn a bikini before. An from some anime cos players ive seen, they would easily do this. My only worry would be what kind of erotic male figures will he do? Knowing him something similar to Voldo from Soul Calibre.Teoes said:It's Kojima posting flamebait in order to set the Escapist off again - it's been a quiet week so far apart from Microsoft's duncery.ccdohl said:I don't get it. I guess it is out of Japan.
If the person cosplaying wants to present themselves that way, I'm not going to stop them. Maybe they even want feedback from their fans on what new sexy cosplay they want. I just hope they know what they are getting into and are able to keep themselves safe doing the thing they love.wulf3n said:You only have to google cosplay to see plenty of people that aren't exactly trying to stop others lusting after them.Tel_Windzan said:I don't think cosplayers really like others lusting after them though, or possibly like to be encouraged to dress sexy because someone else wants them to.
Kind of like this statement
While not a requirement it's still, at least from the perspective of one who's not part of the cosplaying community, portrayed that wayIanDavis said:While the revealing costumes are the ones to usually make the headlines, "erotic" has never been a defining requirement of cosplay.
Sounds like you weren't interested, or rather well informed on it, in the first place if you think this is a change of pace for the series. Titty Snake? I mean really, Kojima's an ass man and we all know it. Otherwise Old Snake wouldn't have had those like 20 minutes of closeups on his what can only be described as lovingly crafted rear end in MGS4. And any of the moments over the course of the series where you could go first person to see the perv glances Snake or BB are taking, nine times out of ten he is looking at butts, not cleavage.CriticalMiss said:You've got to love it when a game designer creates his characters based on what will sell more merchandise. He should just come straight out and make a Metal Gear Sexy: Tactical Erotic Action. The collectors edition could have a full sized Titty Snake love pillow and a pair of soiled tactical panties.
One more franchise to not be interested in any more
What, no love for the insane post-modernism of MGS2? That stuff has held up surprisingly well, and I think it's hilarious that a lot of developers are taking credit right now for exploring the player-player character divide when Kojima beat them to the punch years ago (and was basically totally ignored).Retrograde said:Also, he gave us this. He's done more good for this medium than any number of feminists ever will, ever, by the mere fact that while some ***** like the irrelevant little children they are, others create. Love him or hate him, gaming is a better place for his deciding to dedicate himself to it and we need more like him.
Where are the western devs with any kind of balls eh? Most of those shills are after the quick sale or the next big franchise and the rest are too terrified of winding anybody up to stretch any sort of boundary.
He is a video game designer. That's par for the course. In Search of Username said:Hideo Kojima: Half of the time, postmodern genius; the other half manchild pervert.
