Hideo is a hero.

Boobs 'n' butts shift games exponentially in Japan so this will increase the games profits. More profits mean more Metal Gear.

This way Hideo gets more money to make Metal Gear with! We get more metal Gear! And the social injustice warriors get something else to whine about. Everyone wins.

If it ain't getting enough dough, chuck some T&A and watch them eat that shit up for the floor, seriously you don't have to design WELL, just gotta design for the merchandising to make the money, EXPENSIVE merchandising for people who generally shouldn't be allowed money.

I feel physically ill reading this, this is a hate crime against women. Kojima is dangerously mysoginistc and seems to making a rape simulator rather than a video game. I hope there is enough of a backlash against him that namco has to fire him.

If the person cosplaying wants to present themselves that way, I'm not going to stop them. Maybe they even want feedback from their fans on what new sexy cosplay they want. I just hope they know what they are getting into and are able to keep themselves safe doing the thing they love.

It just seems to bug me when another person expects this kind of attitude from all cosplayers. Kojima seems like he wants cosplayers to do this regardless of their stance on being sexy or not, which is a pretty big ask for a lot of people that do it. Maybe if he requested a well known cosplayer who likes to dress sexy, it wouldn't bother me so much, but all of them is a tall ask in my book.

At the same time...I also just realized that Kojima wasn't just asking female cosplayers to do this either. So if there is one guy out there that is willing to dress up in the outfit Kojima requested, I'd be okay with that.
He's not really asking cosplayers to cosplay as ghost, he's trying to have the character designed in such a way that people want to cosplay as her.

I don't think I'm the only one who believes Kojima a is a gigantic troll. Seriously, this seems like trolling to me.

Google it. It doesn't really show anything, even in the JP version. The US version also changed her age to 18, and given the low-res art, probably not many people would've even given it a second thought even if the US version weren't censored.

as a guy I'll readily admit that I have no problem with scantily clad or well endowed female characters in games even if that's all that they have going for them[footnote]note necessarily saying I'm buying said games that have these characters[/footnote] and I have no problem with looking at the photos that eventually show up on the net of women Cosplaying as them but even I think that this is more than a tad ridiculous.

OT: I really don't see why changing character designs during dev phase to make em way more erotic for practical reasons would be wrong... but golly this thread seems decidedly against it. And I think the average videogame user is more for it, so don't think such opinions matters much.
Define "practical"?

Because the way a character dresses should be practical to their role. Bikini snipers are, for example, the opposite of "practical" unless they're trying to assassinate someone at a day spa or something.

The practical reason is to sell more figures, I get it, but at the same time it's just pandering that's even been said it's pandering. I admire the guy for being at least blunt about it and not beating around the bush as to his intentions... but that doesn't make those intentions noble.

But I haven't bought any Metal Gear games other than the original and Snake Eater, from what I understand I have made the right choice.
But until this one here Ive always thought that all of the characters were so well made male and female.

I think I'm a bit racist in the fact I don't believe Japanese writers can ever create a rational and compelling character.

Something about their storytelling technique rubs me the wrong way and their characters always seem bi-polar.

As much as I love Japanese game designers and the scope of their imaginations, many of them have taken a disturbing turn over the last five or ten years that I wish they'd grow out of already. Stuff like this is making me wonder if there's going to be anything coming out of there not touched by this or the "moe" mindset in a few years.

With that outfit, I wonder where Quiet carries her bullets? I too used to take MGS story as something cool to admire and follow. Difficult to do it now.

Someone at Konami, hire an editor for Kojima.

Um... okay, cool. I don't think cosplayers need any encouragement; this is fucking Metal Gear Solid.

But hey, what do I know, maybe they will sell more action figures.

In the original post, there was a link leading to what Kojima's ideal cosplay involved and it was just a shot of a woman's backside in a leather thong with ripped fishnet stockings. That seems to me a pretty clear intention of wanting to see cosplayers look sexy because he wants them to dress up very similar to the character and he did go on Twitter saying he wanted to make the character more sexy for cosplaying. Maybe its just how I interpret the information but it seems to me that indicates he wants people to cosplay sexy. Though at the same time, maybe this is only targeted toward what he wants to see when people cosplay as Quiet, so I was wrong in saying he wants to see all cosplayers as being sexy, just the ones that dress as his characters.

1) Kojima has always had sexiness in his characters. Hell, anyone remember Raiden's flowing white hair and skin-tight Skull Suit? That guy was practically waving his dong at you with every cartwheel.

2) Just because a female character is physically appealing doesn't reduce her value as a person. Sniper Wolf had GREAT tits, left her jacket just barely zipped way down low for maximum cleaveage, and had no shirt under it. All this while fighting a sniper duel in a blizzard. And when you talk to her, you get one of the most meaningful conversations in the game, about self-worth, pride, inner strength, what it means to be a soldier, etc.

3) Everyone chill down. You're in a hyper vigilant state here, and it's not very tolerant to jump on a man about his characters when all you have is a shot of said character's ass. Nowhere did he even state that this character was female. It would be 100% in keeping with Kojima's whacky fake-out stylings to suddenly give us a a full body shot and this is actually a DUDE in a leather thong and ripped stockings.

Awesome, do what you want Kojima. While the actual gamers know it's a game and are having fun, everyone else can stay mad and blow things out of proportion.
