The excuse of the weak pound is just bullshit, the pound is stronger than it was a few months ago (it was 1:1 with the euro for a while and even dipped below that briefly), its just an excuse to hike prices.

But really, anyone who is stupid enough to pay full prices for games, whether its £40 or £50/55, deserves to get burned. If you shop around you can easily get brand new, recently released games, at least a tenner cheaper than that, sometimes more.

Anyone else think Activision is in Sony's pocket? Seriously, Activision "tells" Sony to lower their prices, then raises their own?

This will destroy the 360 in the UK, and will increase sales for the PS3, since the 360 is PAL in the UK, so people have to buy PAL games, but the PS3 is region-free so even if the price of games goes up in the UK then PS3-ers can still import games at cheaper rates from America.

Both the 360 and PS3 will suffer for this increase in the UK, but Sony will eventually drop the hint that games can be bought from overseas cheaper and they'll get their revenue back, while Microsoft doesn't have that option unless they drop the regional barriers from their machines.

Honestly, I calculated what 55 quid would be here, and it's only $110!
That's the same as what we would pay for a normal game! Heck, even Steam's cheaper than going to a local store.
We've been putting up with these ridiculous prices for years, and we've hardly complained about it.
Maybe you should complain about it? Else you won't get it changed. Although that said, I think part of the problem is your seemingly anti-gamer government who seem to think you're all sub-human.
I totally agree thats is the whole point if you didnt complain in the first place that why your paying so high prices as game companies think this is the "norm" so if we dont complain now when there trying to do this then in a years time we will just have to accept it and we will be in the same boat as you aussies

I've never understood why England can't just convert to the euro,
The Euro is a dodgy currency that's far more unstable than the pound. That and we don't want Germany controlling our exchange rate.

To be fair as it is in ther UK, and I asume in the rest of the world a game RRP's curently for around £39.99 give or take depending on game. But it isnt difficult to find a plasce online who are doing a deal where you can get it for £29.99 and if you can wait (I personaly cant but some do)for awhile a used game will soon be around £20. So this new system will have a effect but I think you will still be able to buy a good game for arouind £30 to £40 which i dont see as that extreme.

So basically they won't sell,it's a basic fact of economic demand. Not to mention the fact that there are significant substitutes to the major titles.

People have less disposable income than ever and this will continue for the forseeable future. People don't want to pay a large amount of cash for something they may not get decent value out of. I actually think this is just going to push forward the episodic and micro-transaction payment structure for games.

Ugh... Had a feeling this was happening when I spotted that Call of Juarez 2 (which is hardly a highly anticipated game) hit the shelves at £43. I can't remember the last time ANY game came out at higher than £40....

Far from it, the Euro is more stable than the British pound and has been steadily rising over the years against many currencies.

More importantly, the European Central Bank is not controlled by any one country and is independent from individual governments with a strict policy designed to keep inflation low.

It has been said before and it'll be said again: 'Activision is the new EA'.
EA is like an old friend who got a promotion at work and starts acting like a total dick. Then you give him a swift kick in the junk, he realises how much of a dick he has been and starts being really nice to you to make up for it.

Why don't they just mug us when we walk into the shop? It'll save them some time.
I hope it deosn't get to the stage where we all move to Australia because the games would be cheaper there...
Maybe Activision is single-handedly trying to grind the fastest moving media, ever, to a halt. They aren't exactly going to make a profit if no one can afford to buy the damn thing.
