I doubt many know about this live action Super Sentai series, but I stumbled across it by accident and well. it's just to bizarre for words.. but ill try of course..
The premise is that three Japanese people get chosen to Super Sentai heroes (power rangers) which sounds pretty basic.. but it's get better. The red ranger is Akagi Nobou..a 29 year old super fanboy of everything Super sentai.. he's like a walking database of the franchise and seems to know everything there is too know about Super sentai.. he completely geeks out over anything involved with the stuff.. and the actor has a lot of energy.. he really gets into it. oh and he loves the anime character Aoi-chan from a fake anime called Z-Cune Aoi.
Then there's the yellow ranger,Yumeria Moegi.. a very strange, hyper japanese women that loves to cosplay, dresses like a lolita catgirl, draws her own doujin manga and is almost as knowledge Akagi about Super Sentai..
And then there's Mitsuki Aoyagi.. a somewhat stubborn, serious and harsh women that wants to be a professional martial artist.sHe's not very knowledgeable of super sentai and otaku stuff in general,.. besides the fake anime character Aoi-chan that she also seems to like (jsut like Akagi does) though claims to like only for the fight scenes.
If this weren't strange enough.. their "secret" headquarters is a popular Super Sentai themed maid cafe and they transform using, of all things, an Aoi-Chan action figure that doubles as their laser gun sidearms... the name of it is MMZ-01 Moe Moe Z-Cune... because of reasons..
So to recap.. 3 rangers, two female and one male(which is also unusual). two of them are huge fans of Super Sentai.. they use anime action figures as their morphers and guns. their headquarters is a maid cafe.. and their main goal besides battling evil is to become a "official " Super Sentai team.. which is so to them being "Unofficial".. (even the name of the show translates as Unoffical Squadron Akibaranger)
All in all, it's the most bizarre thing i've ever stumbles across.. and if you've also seen it somehow. what do you think?.. if you haven't then i recommend checking it out.. it's so strange it needs to be watched..
