A world where the Australian Classification board bans games over nothing whilst having double-standards, Miley Cyrus is making music that worms its way onto charts, Neighbours is still on TV, and idiots still go and see the Twilight movies- oh wait.

Horror Tip #1: DO NOT GIVE THE PLAYER A GUN
Just compare any Resident Evil to, say, Fatal Frame, Clock Tower, Trilby's Notes...they're all scarier.

The ability to take ANY of your surroundings and use it as a weapon
And by that I mean (DAMN YOU HUBILUB your avatar is distracting me and probably going to give me a seizure) you can bloody well cut down a tree and carve a shiv if you want.
The twist would be, your opponents can too. Oh, and your shadow wants to kill you. Avoid seeing it at all costs. Also, sanity meters FTW!
Yes i completly agree. Guns make things less scary because you know you cna stay away as far as possible and still hit the thing. If we had a weapon that we made ourselves we would have to get up close an dpersonal with the thing we fear! Its what made Condemned so fun & fear so bad.

Also make th echaracter move at normal human pace like in Condemed. Havignt o walk everywhere and the occasional sprint is more realism and therefore more scare. I hated playign FEAR for the fact i could spirint everywhere blazing huge fucking guns. It takes away the element of morality and vunerbility (cant spell).

A billion zombies and you have a minigun and there's heavy metal playing in the background. That's so scary.

The more monsters, blood and heavy metal, the more scariness.

no... NO... NOOO! *agonising death cry*
Truly the most sanity wrecking game ever.

OT: A game in which you play as a badly wounded soldier in WW1. Your field hospital gets hit by artillery, you wander out and explore the muddy hell of barrages, gas attacks, rats and machine guns while having hallucinations and distorted vision from the morphine/ other meds you got earlier. It all takes place at night, you have been hit in the arm and face by shrapnel, you can't fight, talk or see properly and due to some internal injuries you can't run either. Let's suppose the area you are in is "in front of the front lines", other troops have pulled back due to mustard gas attacks and barrages, so you are supposedly alone. since you play as a soldier who has seen the mindless slaughter, you start to go slightly insane when you see the torn corpses and rotting bodies in the no man's land. Of course being high on opiates doesn't help. I suppose it would be more of a psychological scare than horror. Let's make it interesting and make the PC German, later in the war, autumn of 1917.

A game where you wake up next to a disfigured corpse and you have no memories and a strange creature tells you that you are in purgatory and that the corpse is actually your mortal shell. Then he tells you that he wants to play a game he will send you back in time and give you the ability to posses humans and control them but there is a catch while possessing humans you can't read their minds or see their faces in mirrors and since you are dead monsters from the netherworld will haunt you and when they catch you they will kill your host and drag you back with them so you can't stay in the same body for a long time. The only way to win is to search for clues within the gameworld and hints in conversations with the npc's so when you are certain of your identity you can save yourself. The main idea is that having the ability to posses humans there are a lot of possible ways to save yourself like if you find out that you were shot and you know who the killer is you can posses him and jump in front of a car or posses a cop and blow his brains out.

Ok i got one, the story is a cop is on the hunt for a killer, when following him into public areas such as mall, subway or shop the place becomes dark and isolated with deamons etc.(Silent hill style) over time he continually engage with the killer, each time discovering more about why u hate him. Their be moral moments such as persue the killer or safe the woman form the monster. Their could be two gameplay styles you can choose Action(Resident evil 5/L4D style) or survival horror(SH/Siren). The main character will take damage over time to look more and more like a killer himself(Scars, bruses, dirty cloths)

I dunno. Confronting personal demons is definitely pretty deep, but if your only way of depicting it is breaking all aspects of realism and covering the screen with "evil candy" then I think you'll run into problems. It'd become more disconnecting as it becomes less believable.

how about one where you have a gun but the only way to get ammo is to loot corpses which increases your insanity. Also guns only work against the weakest enemy so for everyone else you have to use stragy against. For example your in a house and a high level enemy breaks down the door, you shoot him but it doesn't seem to injure him. So you use your mind and shoot something down onto his head.So you have to decide between ammo or your sanity. Also to way to get your insanity down is to see a human who isnt dead or get to a place with no bodies or
destruction. If you get insanity meter too high you start to halucinate like seeing a demon where your buddy is or the ground swaying under your feet as you walk.

how about this for a horror game idea
Your in an underground church and your character says, "Somethings not right here" then theres a creaking noise from the cross at the top of the church. Then the "Christ nailed on the cross slowly turns his head to look at you. He then rips his limbs of the cross, leaving one bloody hand pinned to the cross. All of a sudden the light turn off. You scramble to turn on your flashlight. You turn it on only to find ur friend has been eaten by the unholy christ. You pull out your revolver to get revenge on the thing that killed your friend. You shoot the foul beast four times. It falls on the floor moaning. All of a sudden the floor starts to rock under your feet. you lose your balance and fall to the ground. As you heave yourself onto your feet you discover the injured demon has vanished, to be replaced by your friend, blood oozing out of four gunshot wounds. you start to sob as you realise you have shot your only living friend.
so what do you think?

happy now?
