This. Why everyone doesn't use gmail I will never know. Can ANYONE give me a good reason? I also doubt Micro is purposely doing this, but it is a bad coincidence.
Can you give me a good reason NOT to use Hotmail?

I use Hotmail, it gets the job done and I am happy with it.
Well the reason not to is that gmail is better. Taking something that just "works" is like taking the dvd player when someone offers you a choice between a free dvd or blu ray player. The dvd works fine sure, but blu is better in all ways (and also plays dvd).

I did a phone based password change with Sony, it seems they are pretty backed up, they said maybe between a week and two weeks before I get my password change e-mail. This was straight from a reps mouth.

After ignoring us for hours, right after this website ran the story the admins noticed us and now have replied to our questions. They state the service is running normal now and we should get our e-mails in a few hours, if not resend the request and then it will work.

Took you hours to make that reply Microsoft lol.

A good reason? Gmail is run by the evil information hoarding gang known as Google. They're only second to Facebook when it comes to privacy violations.

Anyway, my PSN account was setup years ago. It took nearly 24 hours to receive my password email from Sony. If anyone thinks this is a "conspiracy theory" (in all its negative context) hasn't been paying attention to past events.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who thought of that when reading the title?

OT: I have heard many people, not just those using hotmail, aren't receiving them. I bet it just has to do with glitches in the service with so many emails being sent out.
ninja'd. so DAMN ninja'd.

seriously, people just want someone to accuse?
blame anonymous.
microsoft has already been in the government's sights, they don't need that again

If this is a plot by Microsoft, they must have hired Snidely Whiplash into their planning committee. This is too obvious to be intentional.

I personally had no problems with my Hotmail password reset.

Not everyone is ok with giving Gmail that much private information. I am a Gmail user myself, but I would never consider GMail the be-all end-all anyway.

Wow, people are really quick to point the fingers these days. I'm pretty sure Microsoft could get sued pretty bad for that.

Calm down, folks. It's very likely that Sony's servers are overtaxed. Just keep trying, if you can, and if you can't I'm sure you'll still be able to work something out. After three weeks a few more days is probably no big deal.

Maybe it's a bit much for the article to say that hotmail was sabotaging the psn revival but we did get a confirmation from microsoft that the reset emails were being blocked. Some of the lucky few got their emails early but the majority had to wait 24+ hours. Here's the message from microsoft:

Tuesday, May 17, 2011 7:03 PM

Hello Hotmail customers who are having issues receiving Sony?s password reset mails,

Thank you for reporting this issue so that we could investigate the situation. When Sony re-launched their online service and then Playstation users initiated password resets, Hotmail saw a dramatic, unexpected increase in mails sent from Sony. Unfortunately, these kinds of huge changes in volume are also one characteristic of an email server that has been compromised by spammers. Consequently, Hotmail temporarily refused delivery of emails from Sony?s password reset servers as a defensive response to a potential spam attack.

We have been in discussions with Sony to identify the affected servers and are delighted to report that this issue should now be resolved. It may take a couple of hours for you to receive your password reset mail. If you do not receive your reset mail within a few hours, please request a new password from Sony.

Hotmail and Sony are actively monitoring this situation to help better ensure that all password reset requests go through as quickly as possible.

Thank you,

While I wouldn't put it past Microsoft to do such a thing. I haven't had any problems. I changed my password on the console itself.

Conspiracy bullshit. A better question is why the fuck is anyone still using hotmail?
The question is why the hell can't HOTMAIL deliver mail
Cause it's shit? Hell, it was shit when it first came into function, by today's standards, it's just downright awful. I honestly can't understand people who ever used it, much less those who still do.

Hah, this is pretty much par for the course for Hotmail. They've blocked our email as spam multiple times in the past due to people clicking "this is spam" rather then "unsubscribe" on the newsletter.

Hotmail has been known for having really aggressive anti-spam measures in place for years now.
