okay, so as soon as i saw the finale, a few thoughts came to mind, i'd like to share them, as posted on another site first.

(Lenni Posted:)The twist was great. It threw me off at the end that they played the song "Enjoy Yourself," the same song that Amber was shown singing when House realized he was hallucinating a few seasons back. Did they use the same song to imply that the ending wasn't real or just to encourage comparisons of the two situations to show how far House had come? Also, how did the heroin addict die, and how did they end up in the burning building??

MY RESPONSE:

great point about the possibility of House living actually being a hallucination of Wilson's similar to House's hallucinating Amber. Some important questions that could support that, or highlight House as a murderer.

1. When did House switch the dental records? If the junkie was going to live, as House said, before House left to get high, he would have had to switch them, proving there was a plan for the junkie to die in the building, meaning House knew he was going to die. The only way to know that is if he was going to kill him.

2. When House approached the door, the building collapsed on top of him. There was no other living person in that building, and House isn't agile enough to have made it away from the collapse.

3. I'm a little cloudy on this, but when Wilson was giving his eulogy, and told everyone to answer their phone, I don't recall seeing anyone else check their phones. Everyone just kinda looked around confused. Could be wrong about that though.

so was the music a hint to wilson's hallucination? how did you interpret the ending?

another point to enforce the Hallucination ending (let's call it the indoctrination theory, haha)

if House DID switch the dental records, then their is no internal struggle. It was done solely for the purpose of escaping with Wilson, not fighting with himself. So with that in mind, it only makes sense that he ACTUALLY DIED. and his faking it was just a hallucination of Wilson's.

Nice ending for the series.

I think Warren Zevon would have enjoyed the way of how the series ending, and probably approved of his song being used like that.

You mean, it's over? Finally? Like Lost, this can finally fade from public knowledge and let Hugh Laurie get back to doing funny stuff for a change instead of playing a sardonic asshole?

I'm going with House survived and chilled with Wilson for whatever time Wilson had left.
And just chalk up to inconsistencies with "tv logic". I kinda hate that because it was a finale episode they felt forced to "bring back the cast" and force mini-montages down the audience's throats. And I think because of this we had the whole him wanting/not wanting to die nonsense.

We're also missing a gap of time in the story. House went missing for 2 days, we really don't know what happened between him and the heroin guy.

Oh it was tnight...whatever.
My friend got into house this year and I made fun of him at every opportunity for missing the house bandwagon cause lets face it the show was goin downhill. I was interested when he used those experimental drugs to regrow his leg muscles but it was resolved fast.
But the fact my friend took it so seriously made me taunt him even more and since he wanted to watch them in order on box set which he is now dong with supernatural(my show) I threaten spoilers.
Fuck my friend.(justified in that he is somewhat a bro, douche fan of jersey shore womanizer and all around ass.....why are we friends???)

I have said for years the only way the series would/can end is with House's death. Granted the circumstances were kind of out of left field a little(burning building etc), but I am okay with that. My vote was for him to die form lupus. I am curious as to what he does after Wilson dies.

I watched House for a while, then on and off (got tired of his dumb relationship with Cuddy) and then decided to see the last 30 minutes of the finale. I thought it was kind of weak and unlike the series, but not horribad just empty.

Well, I was not totally impressed with the ending. I did not hate it though, since it could have been far worse. I can't even really put a finger on what made it a bit underwhelming. It just seemed like it was missing....something.

To me it just felt like another episode. In my opinion that is probably one of the worst things for an ending to do. The only part that felt like the series was coming to a close was the last 5-7 minutes of it. Also this episode almost comes out of left field. The burning building, the heroin addict, and even the suicidal feelings (for the most part) that House fights with all only show up in this episode. It is weird to say the least.

0. Except House hallucinated Amber because of his abuse of Vicodin. Why/how would Wilson be hallucinating House? Sure Wilson could do it out of desperation to not die alone, but he has more friends than just House.

1. A fire like that would take hours to put out. If House hauled ass he would have enough time to do it.

2. We didn't actually see House get crushed. We see the debris fall in front of him and everyone (including us) just assumed he was crushed.

3. I think Foreman checked his.

Well they did a nice wrap up with the whole road trip, but even tho I held down the fast forward button through all the drama bollocks I could still see the twist coming.
But hey it's one of the rare shows that knows when to call it quits and doing so with grace.

I was going to make a thread about this, but then i took a clot to the thigh muscle... and used the search bar.

I have some comments to say about it

1. Even though i liked it, it wasn't as good as other seasons finales though I understand this one didn't have the advantage of being able to end in a cliffhanger.

2. As already mentioned House couldn't possibly get out of the building when it collapsed

3. Lets see if i can explain myself in this one. In order for the twist to work they ignored all the build up to it. If he had already thought about playing dead he didn't need to stay for when the building burned, he shouldn't have been so troubled when the hallucinations showed, the hallucinations should have known what he planned, if you think he stayed there for Wilson and Foreman to see him i say that he couldn't possibly know they were going to arrive let alone on time.

Its like in the old times when they played series in movie theaters like if and episode of the show ended with the falling of a cliff in a car and in the next episode you see him jump off the car befor it fell, it would be better if he found a parachute under the seat, it would be too much of good luck but at least it isn't cheating.

(Points for reference)

4. I knew he didn't die :p

5. Wasn't it risky for House that the police could have perform a DNA test to the body? Was the patient that much like house and burned as much as needed so the couln't tell one from the other?

That's a nice theory but it excludes Foreman finding Houses carnet, wich i think Wilson helped House plant because he couldn't get in the hospital without being noticed, unless he did it beforehand.

Except that he was awesome as a sardonic asshole.

OT: After finally watching the finale last night, I'm not a fan of the hallucination ending. Yeah there are some points to support it but I'd rather believe he saved his own life and faked his death for Wilson's benefit and not his own.

I don't think the ending is a halucination. The whole point of the episode was to question the meaning of life. A convoluted plot element like that would detract from that point.

It would be kind of bitter if House just died and Wilson, condemned die in roughly 6 months, falls into a delusonal state purely due to desperation and trauma.

It would also be a strange point to have House's halucinations be clear, character-based flashbacks while Wilson's occur as a seamless transition into pseudo-reality.

I think the bigger questions surround what House and the drug addict planned/did. I'm not sure if House went with him with the intent of overdosing.

In regards to Foreman finding House's ID, we can't say for sure when the swap occured. I didn't watch that closely, but I was under the impression that that was what he placed under the leg from the beginning. I don't recall House wearing his ID that often.

Beyond that, I'd just like to point out that this whole theory business is an exercise in futility. We can't say for certain what the writers meant to convey unless they tell us. If you want to be clever, you could consider that Wilson and House are like the Sherlock Holmes theory where they're really one person. You can make anything "make sense", but the truth is that what was shown was shown is shown. Nothing more, nothing less.

I didn't look for hidden meanings or an alternate ending, because there most likely isn't one.

1) He probably switched the dental records some time in the night after the collapse and before the body was retrieved.

2) The collapse happened in front of House, since he didn't hurdle to the floor, like if the building had fallen on him.

3) Everyone else didn't have that ringtone or could clearly hear it was coming from Wilson.

I thought the ending was average. I've found other House season finales much better (like Season 4).
