the game that really dragged me into hardcore gaming was half-life I studded everything about the universe of that game, though once i got into RPGs I was doomed to be an obsessive gamer for life

First game I remember playing was The Empire Strikes Back for the Atari 2600, back in '85. I was 3.

Super Metroid on SNES.

DOS games on the PC, I can't even remember what they were called, but I think it was all Shareware.

Would you count Apple Panic on the VIC 20? That would have been about 1984.
Guild Wars was my first online game, in 2007.

I believe it was Super Adventure Island on the SNES.

Although that is simply my earliest memory of playing games. My older brother and my father were both gamers so its entirely possible that I was playing games before that I simply can't remember.

I get the impression that a thread titled "how did you lose your virginity" would never make it into the hot threads section... There'd be three posts.

I think the very first "Legend of Zelda" is what did it. The one on the original Nintendo system. I never actually beat it, because my cousins were the ones who owned it. Also I was probably a toddler. I didn't even know its name until a couple years later; I always called it the "sword and shield game."

Sonic and Knuckles Collection for PC 1997. It was my seventh birthday, and I only occasionally played my older brother's GB before it.

Something on the Atari, I can't even remember at this point. Either Pac-man or Galaga, or something along those lines. It's been over twenty years since I started gaming. >.>

Doom when I was 3. My parents figured it would help stop the nightmares I was plagued with. It worked suprisingly well.
