It use to be easy when the block art assets use to be a single png file. Now everything (in 1.7) done in with the resource pack. A collection of files, not just art:

Hey, i did this a while back.


I'm not sure if it's the same, But somewhere in the texturepack folder is a sheet that basically has all of the different paintings on it (not their borders, just the image) and you can then just place your custom pictures over the top.


I used Paint.Net, But that was a year and a bit ago, There are probably other decent tools you can use.

I just used MS paint to do that.

Been doing it since I got my first texture pack. One of the first things I do when making a permanent settlement is to get up my Sonic 3 and knuckles painting up on a wall somewhere. XD
