How do i connect to minecraft online.

I have been playing minecraft for a while and it has been amazing, but i have been getting lonely. When i try to put in multiplayer IP numbers, it won't let me in. I'm not an intelligent man(as you would allreadt know) so could i have a step by step guide.

Well for a start, do you have the IP of a server? As in an actual server you know exists? Do you have a friend that has set one up or what? If you don't have the specific IP address of a specific server, it won't work. Random IP addresses won't work, so try finding one out, and then join that. Try the Escapist's server, that would be a good place to test out getting online.

I don't know personally, but I believe there is a group. I recommend going there, joining, and asking around there. They can probably give you better help than I can, and they can teach you a lot about multi-player in general I should imagine.
