I pick mythological or fancy names like "Brynhilde", "Keicha", "Pandora", "Aphrodite" and such. Goddess names are something I really use alot, mostly because I assosiate it with the character I'm playing. If I'm going with a character who's specialised in meele, I go with names like "Athena". If I pick one that uses dark magic, then "Nyx". Simple as that.

Of course, sometimes I just go with names of celebrities or people I know for the lulz.

I'll usually use my handfull of names that I do use for pretty much everything.
But, for fear of having said names stolen from MEH, I shall post none of them!

ButtonMasher or Yahtzee. I've been using Yahtzee way, way before I knew about Zero Punctuation.

It is either my name or a name of a character I particularly like from something else.

That said, I don't play many RPG's at all, so I very rarely name characters anyway.

Actually I've started to name some of my female characters 'Pumpkin', especially if they're redheads(I have nothing against redheads if that's what you're thinking). I named my singer on Rock band Pumpkin and purely chose a female character because most of the songs are sung by men which looks rather funny.

It depends, sometimes I will take it seriously and give my char a genuine sounding name appropriate to the game. But sometimes I just make up something silly on the spot, especially for online games. Actually now that I think about it, I'm more likely to take naming my char seriously while playing single player. One of my favorite silly online char name was ImaKeeperor LazerEyes-pewpew kinda lame.... but I like them.

Either my name or, when the protagonist is male, I use my initials... Which makes a male name... xD

I'll usually use something from another game.

Although a lot of the time I hit the random button until I find a first name I like, then keep going until I find a last name I like and combine the two (or change them slightly).

Depends on the character I'm making. I usually name them somewhat related to the abilities or items I'm gonna have them pick up in the game.

For example, my latest Fallout 3 character started with a ridicoulusly high charisma and strength stat as well as speech, explosives and big guns and his favourite skills. I namend him Ahhnold(sic).

This is why I like fantasy RPGs so much. It gives me the legitimate opportunity to make my characters' names all sound like rejected Metal Gear bosses and still fit in with the theme of the game world.
You will all fear the name of RAGEFURY SHOUTSCREAMER, mightiest barbarian of the land.

Normally I call the main character "Fagballs"

Also calling the dog from FF8 "Anal" = "Anal search" Yes I stole that from spoony.

Whatever names I used up until this point no longer matter. I am using this for all eternity.
This this this.

It depends, I usually use my own name or something ridiculously immature. Just cos 'Cuntbox' sounds excellent in any ingame dialogue, yeah.
I feel like a dick using serious names especially mythology-type ones an' that.

If it's a Sims game, the most offensive, most downright rude name I can think of. I used "Timmy Cummin" for the Sims 3. Oh the hilarity!

I generally name my characters Ethan. My Fallout 3 character is called Ethan Hallburgh. Coincidentally, he looks a bit like Chuck Norris.
