I usually always call myself Geon106 or Geon in anything online/multiplayer. offline games it can vary tbh

In Oblivion i'm called Louisa and i'm a girl
In Fallout 3 i'm called Harry :)

In most games, I just use the same name you see here. In single player RPG's and the like I tend to use a tiny handful of names that generally fit into a medieval-fantasy world. In MMO's that offer a randomize button, I'll generally just clikc that button until something interesting pops up, and then I see if it's available. In games without one, I just type in letters that would reasonably produce a pronouncable word and hope for the best. The latter strategy is a fail strategy for those who are interested, because if I stick with a character or game for a long period I inevitably resent how silly the name is.

From time to time I will use lesser known names from antiquity. My Witch Hunter in Warhammer Online was named Dominco after the famous Italian sword master and my Warden in LOTRO was named Palaiolgos after one of the emperors of Byzantium.

Depends on the type of character or game

I had a trend with Shakespearean names for Morrowind/Oblivion Characters, Tybalt the Khajit assasin, Othello the redguard warrior. Sometimes its a random literary reference like the March Hare as my Malkavian in VTMB.

I usually put a lot of effort in my characters visually if I can.

Wolf is a go to name if I can't think of anything, usually generic warrior.

The Metamorphosis. Kafka's a pretty out-there guy.

OT: I tend to just go with the preset/canon names for people. If none are available (which usually doesn't happen for me), I'd either go with some name that sounds like it would fit my character, or just Daze. If it's just to name a game file, then I'd use Daze or my actual name.
I didn't expect to find one in this tread. Sir, you earned your cookie.

I have a list of names, assigned to the type of character im making... each with their own flexible backstory, so they fit into whatever game theyve been sent into this time.
but its a long list so... i cba going into it...

most of these names have derived from SoulCalibur 3 CaS names, 2 from Wind Waker save files... a few from taking their character basis and adding an a on the end or removing a letter, for example Angela (a jokingly obvious name ofc) and Sagea (even though shes not a sage, SC3 dictates that ALL shield users are sages apparantly.)

...and a few more from random other places...

so far the only exception to this has been oblivion, as each race has their own name structure, and i wanted to keep to that.

i really wanted to give them all last names recently, but SC4 only lets you have 12 characters in the names... and i cant draw so i cant make a decent bio thingy :< i should re-learn how to draw...

I use the names of characters from my stories, and then play according to those characterisations. Morally ambiguous characters are played bad or neutral, good characters are played good etc

I use very stupid names for Sims, obtuse names in KOTOR, Jade Empire et al and in RPG's like Shadow Hearts I leave them as they are.

I name mine Alex, Mike, Max or something else, but it doesn't matter, no game will actually say your name it will only stand for a Save Game name. (that rhymed)

I usually go for brunothepig or, if I wanna be impressive, Vassago. I did once call my guy in Legend Of Zelda : Ocarina Of Time "a slut." Then, when I met the gordon kings son, who was named after me, he said "I am hero of the gordons, I am a slut." It was epic. I need to do it again to take pictures...

Think about 3 different IRL names, split each into 3 parts and then use the 1st part of the 1st name with the 2nd part of the 2nd name and the 3rd part of the 3rd name, if it doesn't sound good try the 1st part of the 2nd name and so on and so forth untill I get a nice name for a fantasy/space-opera character

Thomas (my name) I use when I'm being uncreative. I have defaults for fntasy games that I created in my WoW days: Alturis and Vanskylin. Skeetles is a new name I"ve been throwing around which is basically a joke name haha.

I go through phases of loving a word so I change a few letters here and there to make a decent name.

e.g Solar = Solarius/Solaria

EDIT: oh and of course, this name.

If it's a male character i'll usually use Corso (Italian for run) which was shamelessly taken from a film called The Ninth Gate.
If it's a female character i'll use Jade. Which was shamelessly taken from Mortal Kombat 3 (or 2 if you unlocked her).

Original? No.
