How do you pronounce Pokemon?

I don't know anyone who actually pronounces it the way they do in the anime (Po-kay-mon), with the accent over the e. Everyone I know (including myself) dulls it somewhat to Po-keh-mon or Po-ka-mon.

Do you say it the way it probably should be said? Or the seemingly more common way? Also, have you ever heard anyone pronounce it COMPLETELY wrong? =P

I pronounce it poke-eh-mon. The "ay" diphthong is a particularly disgusting sound which I'm not certain exists in any language except English. I always cringe when foreign words are pronounced in ways completely divorced from the language we adopted them from. I like to think of the 'poke-eh-mon' pronunciation as a way of anglicising the word without bastardising it.

I try to get it relatively close to the Japanese accent with the short and sharp syllables - 'pok-eh-mon', but sometimes I'm a bit lazy and say 'poke-eh-mon' (longer first syllable). I guess with the really proper Japanese pronunciation it ought to be po-ke-mo-n with the slight stress on the 'n'.

But yeah, I figured the elongated syllables were a case of it being in an American accent, being British I don't know if this is the case for most American Pokémon fans or if the dub anime voice actors are just evil.

I've heard people call it 'pokey-manz' as an affectionate bastardisation, as well.

"Po-keh-mon." Said in a flat manner.

Some people here at home (including a few who voices the Swedish anime dub) will pronounce it "po-kemon". It sounds so awful that it makes me want to strangle them.

Please elaborate. I'm Swedish too; how do they pronounce it, exactly?

Yeah I pronounce it Po-ka-mon. The way the say 'PO-KAY-MON!' in the anime always felt forced to me. Doesn't sound right

Ummm I never thought of it, but...

Poe-ki-mon. I am not sure why or how I turn that E into I, but, there it is.

I pretty much say is as "Po Key Mon".

I think I did used to say it as "Ker" instead of Keyy. Not sure why I change it.

Pockeymon. As in, hockey pockey. But then saying hockey pockey with a pretty heavy dutch accent...
I'm giving you nothing here, am I?

Poh-ke-mon usually. I do sometimes pronounce it as Po-kay-mon though. My dad calls it "Them crappy cartoons and video games that you still love even though you are a 23 year old woman"
