Hello fellow Escapists,

So after reading this [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.865846-Watch-People-Hilariously-Misidentify-Smash-Bros-Classic-Characters] I began to wonder how recognizable would various anime characters be to the people here on the Escapist. I know there's quite a few avid anime watchers on this site but I'm curious how much anime most people on this site can recognize. Most of this list should be pretty easy for those who watch a good amount of anime.

I've compiled a list of 10 different characters from different anime that seem popular/well known. See how many you recognize. Don't know who they are? Just make up a name that fits them.

The only one I didn't know was 9 unless you needed full names for a correct answer (as in Shinji Ikari vs Shinji) then I probably wouldn't have been able to give 4,6 and 7 either. I don't know if I'd say I watch a good amount of anime though, I've only actually seen 4 of the shows that those characters come from.

Name wise, I knew about five of them. I knew every single one but Spike and Lain by appearance. I'm an anime hipster, watching stuff no ones ever heard of.

Ironic coming from a One Piece Avatar probably one of the most popular anime ever.

There was a lot of shows that I wanted to put up that I like much more but I thought I should stick to some that had some sort of chance of being recognized by more people. Though I guess inclusion of Lain might have been a bit much.

1. Erm, somebody from Sailor Moon. I've never really watched it or expressed any interest, so I dunno any names from there. As per your condition to make up a name, I'll go with "Moon". I am confident that's nowhere near but whatever - can't be bothered to come up with anything.

2. No clue. Erm, I'll go with Fuzzy Wuzzy for my made-up name. Because I still maintain that's the proper name for the Ursa in Dota. And I maintain that, because the name is awesome.

3. I don't know. Is that Trigun? I've not watched it. I'll go with the name...Jack. No idea why.

4. OK, I want to say that's from Serial Experiment Lain but I've not watched that either, so I'm not sure. And by not watching it, I don't know any names, too. Well, perhaps there was a...Saya there? Might be something close - Sayo or something (potentially with different spellings). Or I may be completely off.

5. Ah, that guy from Pokemon. Ash, was it? I think it was that. I've not watched that either.

6. Shinji from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Yay, the first one I've watched.

7. Well, I know where this is from, but again, I've not watched it and I I'm not familiar with names. THe anime is One Piece and I think the main character there had a Japanese name. I'll go with Makoda. No clue if that's even a real name, though.

8. I'm completely clueless here. OK, umm, Grand General Admiral Sir. The last one is a name, rather than a title. And yes, I called him a general and admiral - he looks good at multitasking. Or something.

9. Ah, her I recognise (visually) but I don't know the anime. Was she named Skuld?

10. OK, I know I've seen him, but again, it's yet another anime I've not watched. Also, I don't know his name. Detective. I'll go with this as his name.

1. I knew the anime, but I've never heard her name.

2. OK. Not as good as Fuzzy Wuzzy.

3. Well, I was write with Trigun. Also, his name has four letters, just like my answer - I'd personally count this as 0.1 of a correct answer.

4. Well, right anime again, incorrect name. Obviously Saya was completely off. I double checked, too - there isn't a character called that in the anime at all (not in the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article, anyway). Then I remembered that Saya was from Blood+. Well, in my defence, at least it's a name that exists in an anime.

5. Yeah, as I said - that guy.

6. Seems this is the only anime I've watched from these.

7. Well...I guess, Monkey is not a really wide spread Japanese name...

8. Is he a general admiral, at least?

9. Well, nope. I did get Skuld correct, at least. She's from a completely different anime but at least the name exists.

3easy5me. Step it up Sniper. Last one is some guy from Cowboy Bebop but I never got into that personally. Only ones I don't recognise at all is 3 and 4. I want to say Trigun for 3(?) but no idea on 4.

Unsure if OP wasn't completely trying his best to be obscure or if i'm just into anime too much...

Like I would have added some No Game No Life in there at least, it's a true test of good taste in anime if you can guess characters.

I got two (Sailor Moon and Ash), and knew what a third was from (the one from One Piece). I also knew that #10's name began with an 'H'.

I got 9 out of 10 right. The link for #4 was broken for me, but looking at the answers I would have gotten it wrong anyway.

I've never seen an episode of Sailor Moon (though I hear they're all exactly the same), never watched Madoka (saw the first episode and just didn't care for it), hate Evangelion, and am pretty much ambivalent toward Haruhi.

I was able to name all of them except #4 and #9, and even those still looked familiar to me. I've seen an episode or two of #4, so I still knew the series even if I couldn't name the character (I also know that the head writer of #4 was the head-of-story on Digimon Tamers, which is the main reason I decided to check it out), and I recognized #9 visually, though I couldn't recall the series.
