How many of you, Escapists, enjoy doing 3D?

Don't know if this has already been made, as the search gave me nothing useful. So, how many of you enjoy doing 3D as a hobby or professionally? I like it a lot, do it almost all the time. Even though it's tedious and boring sometimes, it's extremely satisfying to see a finished project, even if you suck at it (I know I do).

By 3D I mean actually modeling/texturing things, not just modding with Gmod or such, if that makes any sense.

I like sculpture, but I've never been able to figure out a 3d modeling program.

They are too hard. Especially, Maya.

About the only one that is manageable is Google SketchUp.

I love making models, either from paper/wood or clay.

As for computer 3-D modelling, I try to avoid it outside of cnc applications, it lacks tactillity.

I don't really understand it. My boyfriend is doing it at the moment as part of his college course and it seems that every key has 4 functions and making curves takes forever. I have no where near the patience or time to be doing that kinda thing.

I too enjoy real life 3D modeling, but until they make them 3D touch screens, I'm not even going to try and create something 3D in a PC.

I've done some tinkering with XSI|Softimage a few times so I have a rudimentary understanding of how it works at best. It's been a while since I'm bothered messing with it, so I'm not sure how good I am at using it these days.

As for texturing I made some custom skins for several characters in Unreal Tournament 2004 back when people still played that. They were nothing fancy, but I made them just out of curiosity to see how. I can probably scrounge up one of my better ones if you show actual interest.

I'm a photographer, to be honest. As far as art goes 3D modeling is a tad bit outside my area of expertise.

I find it a lot easier than real life clay modeling, but I'd want to get in that too. Just don't really have the funds to really get into it.

@Uncompetative: Maya's not that hard. I'm guessing it's the fact that some people find the UI bad. I find 3D Max's UI bad and have a hard time getting around the whole modifier thinga-ma-jig, but that's just me. I don't see why everyone thinks it's hard. You should try Blender. That is actually one of the best 3d apps, it's free, but it has one hell of an unintuitive UI.

I prefer 2D, both the art form, and the fictional singer for Gorillaz. I'm better at making light effect look realistic on paper than making 3D models.

Doing 3d? You make it sound like a drug :D

I fail hopelessly at art (which doesn't help as i wanna be a games designer) but i do create 3D models and levels with Maya and many game engines.

It's hard to make a good animation [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpyPaNiKT0U], but I try. It might be fun to get into it as a profession.

What I would like to see is a 3d modeler on the Wii. I mean, the wii-mote's location in three dimensions is tracked, right? It seems to me that it would be more intuitive way to imput stuffs.

I'm not too advanced, but I know my way around 3ds Max by Autodesk. I use it mainly with height maps to create landscapes.

I think it's worse, as there are lots of commands to use. More suited would be for sculpting in ZBrush/Mudbox, used mainly for adding details to normal maps and the like.

Not me, but it has more to do with the fact I can only see out of 1 eye (hence, I can't see "3D" art very well) then anything else.

I really hope it doesn't start to get overly popular within the gaming industry...if all games start going 3D, it'll be the end of my gaming :(

Enjoy Photoshop for silly projects and doodling.

Used to be pretty fulfilled with 3D animation/modeling projects, but it doesn't pay the bills.

So overall I prefer 2D. Plus it branches into other areas of life- even made a Valentine's day card and have been the lead ad designer for my college club.
