How many users in 4chan and similar sites, are truth to their words?

You can split the 4chan audience into 4 groups:

1. People who are completely fucked in the head.
2. People who act tough to impress anonymous internet users.
3. Lurkers.
4. Elitists (not thats a bad thing in alot of cases, you get alot of good recommendations on /mu/ and /a/)

I go on some boards quite a bit (/mu/, /a/, /tv/ and /co/ mainly) but only lurk, I like to keep my sanity intact.

Also I want to say I am not talking about only for MLP fandom, but for every, single, thing, is inside 4chan and similar sites.
For the record, the MLP fandom isn't actually "inside 4chan and similar sites", if that's what you meant, most MLP-based forums, fansites, etc., feel the same way about /mlp/ as gamers feel about /v/ or anime fans about /a/.

I'm pretty sure that 4chan posters are basically the same people as the ones who post everywhere else, but with anonimity and less moderation.

I frequent /v/, to laugh at how they hate everything (and vent sometimes), /b/ for an experience in madness, /tv/ for an experience in snobbery and /x/ to get creepypasta and watch genuinely insane people come up with insanely convoluted conspiracy theories.

I go on /x/ (Paranormal), /co/ (Comics and Cartoons), and /wsg/ (Worksafe Gif) and they tend to be pretty cool. If you look hard enough, some of the threads on the chans can be pure gold.

Examples (watch out for NSFW ads on these sites):

A Bleach and King of the Hill crossover of awesome [http://chanarchive.org/4chan/co/8050/king-of-the-hill-bleach]

A lich and his minions, and a party of adventurers battle it out... Via Rap battle. [http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/5315595/#5315623]

Ruby Quest [http://nepeta.mozai.com/Ruby_Quest/] - A game run on /tg/ about an anthromorphic rabbit and cat working their way out of an abandoned facility. hilarity, mystery and hijinks ensue. Also, the art style is adorable.

< This is Ruby, the main character.

You're acting like we here on The Escapist are not also anonymous.
Yes, I've got a name and an avatar, but do you really know anything about me beyond my forum title?

Frankly most people who post that stuff are doing it for the lulz. The more obscene, obtuse, and ridiculous, the better. Some people get a negative reaction to it, to those people, you fell for a trick. Most of those people are not being serious, they just want to get some reaction out of the things they say, whether it be positive or negative. Hell, I used to lurk on /b/ /x/ and /mlp/ all the time, and half the time people are just talking about alternate dimensions, tulpas and posting furry porn. It isn't a bad place if you go in with the mindset that nearly no one here is being serious, and those arguing are probably doing it because they are bored. Of course, there are people out there that are serious, but it is hard to tell the serious from the facetious.

The internet amplifies peoples personalities. I would never take it seriously.
I think not many people are lying, but the content is simply more stronger than it would be in real life.

I've been lurking there since around August (/co/(HSG master race), /v/, and /tg/ because /b/ is for boring) and I think you get a knack for telling who's telling the truth and who isn't.

You know, like any other site that requires social interaction.

Seriously, they're not that bad...

i usually just go to /vg/ when i am over on 4chan so i have been spared most of the insanity, used to go on /b/ until i looked in the gore thread, i have now seen a man put his dick in to a meat grinder and i wish to never see anything like that again.

A lot of the stuff you read on 4chan is quite honest. Anonymity will do that. However, you should always take "John Gabriel's Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory" into account.

I have not laughed this honestly and heartily in a very long time. Oh wow, you just can't pay for that kind of punchline.

To be fair, that fanbase responded pretty hilariously to that. Everybody decided that they would just find other uses for the, um...anatomical accuracy.

It seems that the only way for people who aren't sick (like myself) to stick around is too laugh at those who are.

/mlp/ poster here.

You never actually know how many are being serious, but the vast majority of the time, it's hyperbolic posting to be funny/"ironic".

Yes, the majority of posters on /mlp/ DO masturbate to cartoon pone (according to a recent survey), but the posts about being autistic or spaghetti or hating humans are just jokes.

For example, there was several hundred posts in response to someone posting a human female, all pointing out how disgusting she was because she had no hooves, followed by photoshops making her look more like a cartoon pony (which received praise). It was pretty clearly all for laughs, and now, whenever humans are brought up, their lack of hooves is mentioned.

Same with "I Want To Cum Inside Rainbow Dash" threads and references. Sure, plenty of us WOULD like to literally have sex with one of these ponies, but posts about it are satirical in nature and unrelated to whether or not that poster actually wants to. It's a hivemind mentality that can only be learned by constant exposure; it is very difficult to explain.

Hell, whenever Braeburn or Big Mac or some other male pony is mentioned, anyone that displays any disgust or opposition to gay horse sex is usually ridiculed for not accepting pony-penis into them. Same with, well, anyone that displays disgust towards much of anything, really. Few of the posters, I imagine, actually jerk it to gay pony penis.

I actually like some bits of 4chan. I frequent /ic/ and /lit/ because there's valuable discussion to be had there. Other places... eh.

If your only exposure to other humans was through 4chan's darker boards, you'd probably:
1. Think rape was not only right, but also expected. (/b/, /gif/, /hc/)
2. Genuinely find women inferior in every way. (/b/)
3. Think gore was a massive turn-on for everyone with no exceptions. (/b/, /gif/)
4. Think the only fetishes in existence were dickgirls and ponies. (/d/, /mlp/)
5. Think Spiderman was a valid solution to anything you didn't like. (/b/)

Thank you for your feedback my friend.
Btw, I have only a question to ask:
What is the the spaghetti you are talking about?

A lot of its true but a lot of it is also fake, which is why people are comfortable telling the truth. as far as fetishes go I believe most of them being true at least to the point of them liking the idea if not actually finding the act enjoyable. Say something like rape, plenty of people on /d/ enjoy it but I doubt many of them would enjoy it if someone was actually getting raped.

This link has a fairly good explanation:

http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/spaghetti-stories

Fans of My Little Pony are stereotyped as being socially-awkward, virgin, fat, and even autistic, so, naturally, the whole "spaghetti story" thing fits in quite well whenever awkwardness is brought up.

4chan is mostly about exchanging nice photos and graphics. A picdump with a community attached.

Then there's the trolling bit, which is awesome and pretty much the go-to place for prime cuts of master grade, coordinated mass trolling. It's not for everyone, but it's usually hilarious and well deserved.

The other bit is the beautiful hive-mind of 4chan. Tracking down pet killers, thieves or other antisocial twats is sort of a pet peeve of the 4chan Borg.

As to finally answer somewhat properly to your question: meh. It really doesn't matter. If you want serious discussions about a subject such as cartoon ponies for little girls, them being consumed by males in their teens and twenties and the subject of cartoon pony fetishes, you don't go to 4chan. It's the equivalent of watching Hellraiser, Faces of Death and snuff movies to learn all about love. It's just not a smart move.

Simple as that.

Edit: As Matt Dellar pointed out, there is worthwhile exchange to be had @ 4chan, just not on the subject of ponies.
