How to fight sleep

This is a rather unusual topic of advice....but if you had to fight off sleep for a day or two, what's the best way to go about it?

I'm needing to battle it due to having an extremely rigid/lazy sleep schedule that no matter WHAT time I go to sleep, is always 7 hours, and lord knows I cannot trust myself this way for more important days, especially when if I go to bed before my usual sleeping time (which is 2am), I just have a really fucking terrible sleep involving staying awake for 3 hours uncomfortably warm and tussling in the covers. And last time I tried to take sleeping tablets, that just made things worse.

So with that said, how can I fight off one of my great nemeses, the Sandman himself? I'm going an obvious route by having 3 soda cans beside me right now to keep me awake at least for 8 hours, until I can be able to move about the house without disturbing people to then play or watch something to keep my mind active (a good playthrough of Phoenix Wright 3's final case and Half-Life 2 afterwards is my plan for tomorrow at least).

But I'd love any additional tips to help me stay awake, other than drugs. Because cocaine's a hell of a drug.

Welll... Sexual stimulation keeps people 'up' in a manner of speaking. You have an internet connection, make magic!

I used to have to stay awake so that I would be able to make early flights out to various locations. Doing so usually involved a couple cups of coffee (like the rest of my day doesn't already involve an average of 40 of them!) and a good game of Ace Combat. Basically any game that you're going to be slightly bored in is detrimental to staying awake. Keeping your mind active is highly useful.

Also, get a bag of minties or whatever chewy lollies you can - I find that chewing keeps me wide awake even when I'm doing 12 hour straight-through-drives over night (when I only stop for fuel). I think it's a case of my mind really being active figuring out how to chew, and apparently I'm not the only one.

Dude, try a normal bedtime, like 11pm, midnight at the very latest. I suppose I'm not the best to tell you that, but that's the best way. Trust me. It worked for me, took a while to adjust but I managed to get up on time and go to bed at a decent time, and it's really great. Don't stay up until 2am (in fact, the only reason I'm up this late now, half past twelve in the UK, is because I'm watching Comic Relief - see my last thread).

I find if I manage to get on the other side of three O'clock, I can stay up through the night. I normally avoid coffee/tea. And if I eat, I eat sandwiches, not cereal like I used to, as they keep me more alert. Then I just stay on the internet.

Do this, it's good for 10 minutes of awakeness! It really does work (from my experience)

1) Get a small towel or something like that.

2) Soak it in cold water, and ring it out until it's not too drippy

3) Put it in the freezer until it's icey

4) Let it rest over your eyes until your eyelids can't take the coldness anymore

And drink coffee!

Just find a midget friend, put him in a fairygodmother outfit, and find a heard of hungry lions and just let them loose in the house. Rub yourself down with raw zebra meat then Instruct your midget friend to attack you at random time periods. SO you must fend him off while avoiding the lions. The godmother outfits for fun and YOUTUBE ....THEN FInd the nearest psychopath give him an uzi and let him loose in your house. But before you let him in place taps such as falling rocks and rolling logs. (DRUGS enhance the experience, but thats your call). XD

Not a good idea. He'll just feel more exhausted when he's done.

Uh, energy drinks? Or exercise might keep you awake.
I'm not sure what you're trying to do though. Are you trying to stay up so you can fix your sleeping schedule?

Coffee. Lots and lots of coffee. I'm practically fuelled by the stuff and by now I'm sure all my bodily fluids will be at least 40% caffeine.

Get as cold as possible, get more caffeine, next time bring something like those energy bars, digestion will make you tired but still good once that wears off, maybe with a caffeine drink or an energy drink and you will be good ummm... light helps, not just a monitor but all around you, as staring at the monitor without other light will just tire your eyes. If all else fails, bring a bowl of really cold water and a towel then wash your face (I assume you can't take a shower for fear of disturbing others).

I have friends to talk to dammit, sleep must wait for virtual friendships!

Keep all the lights on, and have as many electronic media devices on as possible. Keep your kind occupied. Trick yourself into thinking it isn't nighttime.

Go on a plane to somewhere. I swear, you're so high up, the Sandman can't reach you. I think my record is staying awake for about 50 hours.

A nice one for me to do was just stand up. Pace around if you can't stand still, but always remain off of your rear end. That, plus video games or music or what you will, keeps the mind focused.

Play games on your computer... if you sit in a sort of standart office chair, your sit comfortably enough to not go lie down, but you don't sit well enough to sleep. play something engaging, where you don't have to wait a lot.

also lots of fluid, if you drink a lot of water, you have to pee a lot, so if u happen to fall asleep anyways, you'll wake up soon enough and have to go to the toilet.

I am the opposite. I love being awake, I despise sleep.
I saw there was a topic last year when I searched about a pill to give you no need to sleep.
I would take that instantly.

There's not much I like more than drifting off into sleep watching TV. So relaxing... <3

Put your TV on a timer, of course, or Gordon Brown will have a fit.
