I wear glasses because I need to in order to look at stuff. I don't feel all that offended when people get glasses just because they like how it looks. I love the idea that wearing glasses makes you handsome.
Don't get me wrong I need my distance glasses for driving, I was just having a little laugh at the expense of the fashion concious there. :)
Ah. Glasses and fashion. When I found out I needed them it took me ages to find a pair that I didn't feel were completely hideous. Even so, I don't wear them much (vanity, I guess? My eyesight also isn't that bad, I can legally drive a car without my glasses, but still, seeing clearly in the distance isn't trivial)

The whole hipster glasses thing though... That just makes me laugh. Especially since the 'fashionable' thing is to use those really dorky old-fashioned style glasses...
(And then when you don't even need them for anything? Seriously? XD)

Ah, hipsters... Quick. Sell them something with an apple logo on it...

Thats actually the first thing I thought of us as well, the Escapist went through a weird phase a couple months ago of linking to Tumblrs and Deviantarts repeatedly with those kind of redesigns.

Yeahhh I remember that. It was strange to see it all over dA and Tumblr and THEN all over HERE from dA and Tumblr.

It's like seeing the same thing over and over. It's just everywhere

On-topic, mashup T-shirts. Usually they just take Popular Thing One and Popular Thing Two, as if they were a T-shirt designing Cat in the Hat, and put them on a T-shirt together.
But, those are my favorite kind of shirts! Bonus point if it's a mashup of a "popular" thing and a "niche" thing...

At least two of those things you will never see me caught dead (or alive) using!
<color=white>Spoiler alert: The answer is never "Soap"... That's disgusting...
OT: Wait... Da fuck is a "Teefury"?
*Bings it*
*Checks site*
So... It's a hipster version of WeLoveFine.com? DA FUCK?!

Anywho, my biased dislike for designs with nothing but "clever" word banter knows no bounds[footnote]I think it sterns from the fact that I used to make shirts like that in elementary school...[/footnote]... I mean, did you seriously just pay $$$ for a piece of clothing to just have a "clever" statement on it? Could it, at least, come with some "clever" design to compliment the "clever" statement?

I would have thought take a popular well loves IP...cross it with another..BINGO

*uggghhh*

that I'm sick to death of

I am however a fairly regular buyer from Teefury, I actually think their selections have improved over the years...there will be the odd good design, and when I say "good" I don't mean the others are bad on a technical/asthetic level...its just ooolld crossing shit over

though my last purchase was one of She-ra except she was on a skateboard and it said "she-rad' and I knowww its dumb but I had to have it

I generally go to Threadless for my graphic Teeshirts since I like original art too (if anyone wants to ask about online T-shirt sellers please do...I've bought from a lot of them)

Aerosteam said:
I just went on TeeFury's website and holy shit, from a legal standpoint, is this allowed? The art on tons of those shirts are using stuff from franchises and I doubt all of it is (or any are) licensed...
alongside Teefury you've got "print on demand" sites like Redbubble/Society6/whatever which have laxer entry standards (for better or worse)

I had a discussion about this with another poster on another thread and basically I think 1. it would be too hard to enforce copyright on that level 2. they aren't really losing any money over it

and I don't think its nessicaryly a bad thing, the real good ones are providing shit that otherwise wouldn't exist...

I could either buy thishttp://www.redbubble.com/people/mariafumada/works/12608912-bioshock-infinite-fanart-2?c=328502-bioshock (well I don't think the artist has it available for an art print for some reason but I digress)

or I could buy a poster of the tackey cover art from EB games "legitimately"...I don't see how things would be better my removing the former

now Teefury did make me wonder because unlike Redbubble/society6 you can't claim that shit snuck under the radar..its blatant but *shrug* I guess it doesn't matter

I won't deny there is tons of lazy hack shit on there (especially redbubble)...but I personally think its worth it for the good stuff

Yes, it's infuriating how Hipsters just can't seem to enjoy anything but when I think about it, I don't need to really be around to taunt hipsters because they kind of do it to themselves.
I'm beginning to wonder if these hipsters everyone moans about are actually real

or if its just the typical ragging on people for having an alternative style [sub/]which seems to come from self proclaimed nerdy spaces[/sub]

I ain't saying I'm sick of this trend... but I'm pretty fucking sick of this trend, it's not funny, original or clever, wearing that style of design doesn't make you cute or quirky, it just makes you a person who may or may not have once hung on tumblr and/or whatever the current hipster hide out is.?
I'm gonna have to take issue with this thigh what's wrong with Tumblr? Cause honestly while my experience is limited to a few art blogs I think I'd it over the volatile shit from reddit or even a place like this

Cause it's funny you know...certain people are the first to pitch a shit fit over being judged for videogames or what have you yet people come along with a alternative haircut or style or (god forbid) a penchant for SJW'ing and all of a sudden the smug circle jerk begins "ohh ohh look at thease wankers! Hurr hurr" they're like the old man yelling on the lawn...the same old elitist bulllshit,

You know who I see more than hipsters? People bitching about hipsters you know who I think are probably happier? The fucking hipsters cause who knows who they are or what they do because they're probably multifaceted people who are more than a fashion trend...thease hipsters everyone hated don't fucking exist

I mean Christ imagine how much energy we could save if we stopped caring about stupid bullshit like what the kids are doing these days

I might shop at typo (because I fucking love typo) but at least I don't pretend I'm on a higher moral ground than whatever things make up the identity of whoever (I don't know anime figures? )

From what I understand (and that's admittedly not a lot), hipsters (or the idea of being a hipster) don't get flack for having an alternative lifestyle. They get flack because people who have hipster tendencies tend to be pretentious in their fields of interest and they scrabble to find something "artsy" and "different" because they're desperate to be little snowflakes. That's just what I believe though. (You've never seen a Hipster because being seen is too mainstream)

Also Tumblr is a site where a lot of dancing is involved; I enjoy certain aspects of Tumblr (as in .gifs and that's it) but if you LITERALLY tiptoe outside of what you're looking for, you suddenly find yourself in a festering pit of hypocrisy and underage Gravity Falls twincest porn and terrible RP and going on and on and on about how everyone has rights except for the straight white man.

And SuperWhoLock. Tumblr harbours a lot of killers, apparently. That is my stance on why people dislike Tumblr; the idea is nice but a loooot of people on that site (especially the ones who are very vocal with their opinions) are really really really not.

What's inherently wrong with Tumblr? Nothing. I'm simply having a joke at the expense of the stereotype of a Tumblr user.

That said you talk about being the old man yelling on the yawn and as I rapidly approach my 30's at seemingly ever accelerated pace, yeah I do feel like the old man yelling on the lawn and in part that's to do with the young people I interact with being absolute cretins, I'm talking the kind of people who think basic manners are something they don't need, who think if you actually know how technology works than you are suspicious and intimidating (actually something someone said when I made a comment about knowing how to operate a CCTV system, ignoring the fact that I occasionally install them). So maybe I am elitist about it, but you know what I'd rather be elitist than a luddite like most of these young'uns these days. So "GEROFF MAH LAWN! MAH PETUNIAS ARE DELICATE YA LIL' WHIPPERSNAPPERS!"

That said, I think the tone of levity here has been somewhat lost in translation for you, whilst my complaints of hackneyed designs may hold true for myself. Mostly this is meant to be about the design trends you dislike and why you dislike them.

You also seem to miss the point, that it's not really the "Hipsters" I'm mocking here, it's more the cynical, cash grabbing, creatively bankrupt designers who put this shit out that really get my goat. The hipsters in question are just me straw manning the audience for these things, usually because it's the type of audience that will self identify as hipsters, who are usually the kind of people who in the 90's and early 2000's would use Poi as a substitute for personality. (Seriously did you ever talk to one of those people?)

And don't worry I hold an equally low opinion of the kind of Otaku who define themselves purely through their hobby or people who's only interactions are contained through the lens of whatever social phenotype they associate with. As the saying goes: I hate everyone equally.

All that said you're entitled to your opinion and to shit on me for mine as much as you want. But that's also a two way street.

You know what I blame on the hipster glasses thing? Persona 4.

Those hipsters using glasses just to look cool while fighting off shadows to solve a murder case. Could've had another device to use instead of glasses, but no, they didn't do that.

On topic: thankfully I have never dealt with hipsters, and I generally stay away from huge sites like Tumblr and things like that. From what some of you posted though, I probably would've lost the last speck of my sanity by going to those places.

I wonder if most of the hipster stuff at this point is more just a parody, and less a thing. Then again, the Simpsons had an episode about hipsters, so it could be an actual thing. Well, I'm not going to look into it, and just let those kinds of people be.

The problem with hipsters is that they focus their culture on the odd or "non-mainstream", so when something hipster-y starts gathering a non-hipster fandom, the hipsters will pull a "this sucks because it's mainstream and I'm too special for it" and then move onto their next obscure piece of shit.

It's the vicious cycle of hipsters. The mainstream is an ever-hungering beast, and eventually, there will be mainstream things to cater to everyone... except the hipsters. I think that they're a hard inherently hard to market to.

Also, Japanese fashion. All of it. I hate all of it.
Hate to break it to you, but the "avoid something when it becomes mainstream" isn't a hipster-only thing. Pretty much every cultural group has done that to some degree or other. Hell South Park did an episode making fun of this behaviour like 10 years ago or whatever, and it was goth/emo kids then.

This doesn't really bug me, but that might be, because I don't frequent social media sites and other such things, so I'm apparently not constantly assaulted with them. Kids will be kids, they'll grow out of it after a while, just like the rest of us did.

That's not ableism, that's dumb.

Like most "offensive" things. Just dumb.

Anyways. I don't understand hipsters. They look dumb and seem to be narcisstic? Well, I never met one real hipstery hipster, so I don't know 100%. Most people I know hate hipsters.
