As you've said, Weaving makes any villain or anti-hero badass. Hell, he even makes ELVES look badass.

I'll definitely be watching Capt America. Now I'll have something to enjoy in case the story gets screwed up.

"The serum changes the person based on who they are inside, so while Captain America became a hero, Schmidt became a monster."

Uuh...

Seriously?

Why is weaving so fucking good? I mean seriously; Elrond, Mr. Smith, V, AND The Red Skull!! The man must be a god of sorts.
OT: The picture looks freaking awesome, can't wait for the film.

Why doesn't Hugo Weaving make more movies? Seriously does anyone know if there's a legitimate reason we don't see this guy more often, he's a great actor.

Holy crap, Hugo Weaving looks ridiculously faithful to the Red Skull in the comics. I mean, like way more than you think they would allow for a movie adaptation.
It's good to see Marvel isn't trying to add a more "gritty, realistic" look to the Red Skull.

Hot damn, it's gonna be awesome to see him and Cap fighting eachother!

Nice to know I'm not the only one more than a little put off by that. In trying to justify it with scientific hypotheses, I've drawn nothing but blanks. Please tell me that the Super Soldier Serum doesn't operate on Ma-Ti's calling card.

Still, it's Hugo Weaving being deliciously and flambuoyantly evil in a lovely costume fighing against Chris "Don't Stop Believing" Evans. They're going to have to do worse than that to fuck this up.

INot as scary as some people are saying.
But remember this is just a photo, throw some good lighting and Weaving's fantastic acting and he'll be scary.

I agree it's a little off-puting. But there has been precedence for some super-serum idiosyncracies in the comics. So I'll roll with it.

I think it has been shown often in the comics that not just anyone can survive the super-serum, it takes a certain sort of willpower that only a few individuals have had like Steve Rogers, Isiah Bradley etc. Then there's been a bunch of strange powers and abilites that have had an origin in the same serum, for example Sentry apparently got his powers from a serum based off Cap's but at a ridiculously high concentration with some modifcations and he basically became Dr Manhattan, Man-Thing on the other hand was injected with a version of the serum before collapsing in a magical part of the Everglades and he turned into a swamp monster, I think Luke Cage's strength and unbreakable skin has been retconned as being derived from John Steele whose blood the super serum was created from.

I was interested in Captain America for the sake of learning the origin story of the character through the movie, at best. But with Hugo Fucking Weaving as the villain?

At least the villain side can do no wrong (99% certainty).

So much better than the Capt'.... yeah, serum-schmerum is a bit wonkey as well, but the film may yet still be good.

Whatever the rest of the movie is going to be like, at least we already know one casting is an inspired one.

I would like to remind you that this movie takes place in the same universe where a rich playboy flys around in a suit of armor and hangs out with a guy who grows huge and green when he gets angry, along with the Norse God of Lightning. This is not the weirdest thing BY FAR

Well... I'll take a crack at it.
The serum responds to the persons psyche and unconsciousness, that way The person's final form can not be affected through any means because of this. Reading off these impulses, the serum enacts multiple shifts and adjustments to the physical form in order to more closely match and project the inner self.

Though that does kind of play with the idea of nerds always being the good guys and morally wholesome, which is why Captain America turns into, well... Captain America. Cliche as that is, oh well.
Considered that. Couldn't think of any neurotransmitters released exclusively during malevolent mental activity. No unique neurotransmitters, no unique hormones released. No unique hormones, no unique proteins produced/cellular actions carried out. No unique proteins or cellular activity, nothing to react with the serum.

Then again, I'm a lowly pissant student. Maybe there're scores of actual scientists who could reason this one out.

Also, what the fuck is this?

They're getting creative on us, it seems.
