Get a cheap one. I bought a Ricatech-player for 20 Euros and haven't regretted it since.
And the best part is: YOU CAN CHANGE THE BATTERY!

4 years? Mine lasted 1 year. Just buy one again. 2 players = 8 years. 10 players = 40 years.

I can't stand Ipod. Any mp3 player that involves more than two steps (1.Plug in 2.Upload) fails. You shouldn't have to download software just to be able to use your player. If I can't use it straight from the box, it's not a player I want.
i only put up with it becuase it has more battery life and memory and its a bit nicer if you ask me. its all about personal taste if you have money to spend probably get the best ipod touch you can find. if you dont want to spend alot mp3's with low storage(like 2gb which means LOTS of songs) can sell for as low as 20 dollars.

Ipod Touches only have 32Gb of space ( In the largest model ), so there is no point getting one if you have more then that.
I believe the latest has 64 Gb...

Edit: Woops, didn't see the ninja

Get the nokia xpress music, the one with the touch screen. They usually give you a 4gig SD card with it, so any of the older Ipods may well be made redundant by it.

I got my one a few weeks back, And it's served it's purpose admirably.

I use a Creative Zen Stone Plus.
Partly because mine was free, partly because it has 5 times as much space as I need, partly because it is tiny in physical size, and partly because I accidentally put it through the wash... and it LIVED.
My sister likes her iTouch though.

Only?

Assuming average file sizes that could be over 5000 songs. Why would you ever need more than 500?

This. Batteries don't last long enough to play that long, come on. Is it really necessary to lug around your ENTIRE music library? Seriously.

To be on-topic: I've used my DS with flashcart as mp3 player as a while after my Creative Zen MuVo broke (it was a great mp3 player, though), then switched to my PSP. It's nice to be able to switch between music and gaming by just swapping a memorystick. (Or you don't need to if you bring along a few UMD's)

Anyhoo, stick to a cheap model if you just want something to listen to music to. And I'd recommend a creative zen, then. You can already get one for 30 euros iirc.

If your looking for apps and stuff go Itouch

I have a Phillips 8GB MP3 player it does video music pictures and radio but converting videos for it is a pain in the arse and its only 80 dollars
I had the 2G model of this, I believe. The GoGear?
I actually did an analysis of it in Product Design... my conclusion: Inexpensive, with good battery life. (You can pretty much use it constantly for a day), but navigation of menus and whatnot are an issue. Only supports '.SMV' video, and the included conversion software is poor.

Get it if you don't want to shell out for the much more satisfying apple products.

Seeing as everyone is saying iPod. I'm going to be pointless and say a Creative Mp3.
Usually cheaper than iPods and they come in various sizes, colours and memory (2GB - 150GB)

Well as strange as it sounds, I have about 60Gb worth of Music, and around 40Gb worth of Movies and Photo's that are sitting on my computer. They build up over the years. Also I suppose you could call me kind of Obsessive compulsive about keeping my Media organised.
