Apparently their is this new craze that has has been sweaping around for quite some time about these so called "sound high's" with this programe to you can get on the net called i-doser. The program of which uses a series of sounds with the effects of white noise and pulsing beats to meditate your brainwaves and creating a high simular to taking illegal drugs. Personally i find it hard to belive that it actually works and that it is just a silly gimmick for teenagers to buy the product beleving that it will work.

What do you guy think about this strange phenomenon.

It doesn't work, at least on me. I tried it... I mean, I heard about it. I'd never try to seek an artificial high.

This was already an official newspost, but w/e.

sounds like an interesting idea, although I'm not sure if people are actually getting high off it, or are tricking themselves into thinking they are.

It didn't do a whole lot for me, but that may have been because it was pirated. Did feel some odd sensations, but nothing out of this world. I don't really have the concentration to listen to a subtly-changing drone for half an hour, in any case.

Could have been a placebo effect, with the edge taken off by my scepticism. Even though the science behind it is pretty solid.
Must try an isolation tank next.

It's a gimmick. I tried it and got annoyed really fast. I'm willing to bet that they are experiencing is the Placebo effect, which would make my day.

I tried it when the news article linked to the Youtube video of this stuff. Nothing happened. I did not get high, nor did I feel any different. All it sounds like is an annoying buzz. I really don't get how anyone could get high off of that but hey, the human mind is a strange thing indeed.

I was really curious about it, though admitedly very skeptical, just because it is a fascinating concept. Unfortunately, my skepticism proved true more than anything else.

So, what I'll say is that it actually does have some interesting affects, though it overstates the potentcy of every single one of them. That said, in the long run it's a lot more likely to give you a headache than anything you're actually looking for. Any affects it creates are probably actually a combination of a placebo and people mistaking the headache for an actual high. The developers also posted somewhere in the area of one metric shitton of fake reviews claiming it works really well, so, be really skeptical of any review you see saying otherwise, because there's a good chance these assholes wrote it themselves.

Logically and biologically it will have no effect on you, it can't however just like when people unknowingly drink non-alcoholic beer the placebo effect will mean many people will trick themselves into thinking their high.

Why don't they just smoke pot?

I have tried it a long time ago and I recall to have held it in a ridiculous light then. The "orgasm" inducing track was particularly amusing, and I do not know how a mix of oscillator noise and a woman groaning would in any manner cause sexual arousal.

There are, although, actually extremely entrancing sounds out that have been made with the intent of making music.

It's nothing new, it just has a trendy new name that sparked some re-interest.

Holophonic audio and binaural "beating" recording have been around since the mid 70's. It does technically synchronize your brainwaves such that a subtle effect can be felt, but it's about as "trippy" as meditating.

Works better in tandem with a "Dream Machine", see Bryon Gison and William Burroughs - a stereoscopic CEV (closed eye visual) stimulator built from some specficially cut cardboard or metal, a record player and a lightbulb hung to a specific level.

Throbbing Gristle's song "Heathen Earth" has binaural beating specifically designed to enhance said visual aid.
