So I had a dream last night that only a gamer could. I was at what one could loosely call a "bar". Drinks were being served. I was bumping into people in this cramped confined hallway of...computers monitors and controllers. Mice, keyboards, ps3 controllers, weapons mounted on railings pointed at projections screens using Wii style motion controls, old shooter arcade style terminator2 weapons. We were fighting a similer group who was at a bar across the street. There were ground soliders playing on consoles a floor below the control room, which could be delployed by air etc. Our mission was to ride this "armored train" into enemy territory and attack some power structure. We never did make it, other team defended and took out the train we were riding, which caused all the monitors to instantly turn off, and the lights to come on after the explosion animations played over all the displays.

Beyond the fact that Will Ferrel was our "commander" (he had a giant chair, was shouting orders) it was a dream mostly based in reality, with modern graphics and motion controllers. It didn't take me long after waking to realize that "hey, this could actually happen". I don't know about you escapists, but I've never had a dream where I had fun, beyond the obvious. It was strange.

So being as I'm a poor student without the means to ever get this off the ground, I'm hoping someone who peruses at the escapist DOES, recognizes what this could be, and mabye tries to build it 10 years from now, that is if I haven't gotten around to it yet.

This is definately a bit of an extention on that gamer bar I've heard yahtzee started in australia, with everyone working toward a set goal as opposed to just gaming in small groups of 2-8.

So discuss! What could we add? How could we setup the format? Should Will ferrel be installed as permenent commander, or what other celebrities should be hired on as commanders? ( this is more for fun :D I'm thinking Patrick Stewert) What roles should we have? Would anyone want to "be Scotty" and control the "shield generator" and other engineering/repair/defense systems? Considering we have a real world space to design, whos to say there couldn't be 15 "repair points" that said engineers have to monitor, and race too when they become problems. Battles could be won by one team having an engineer who knows his systems.

I hope I've managed to effectively communicate what I saw. It was VERY vivid and engaging, but hard to put into words. There was a definate atmosphere, and real tension. Not sure what else to include at the moment.

I'm a little worried starting a thread at 7:00am may not be conducive to having many views.

So you were playing Zap Zone in Mos Eisley Cantina-meets- Flynn's Arcade with a kind of Sucker Punch going on in the background? Cool beans.

You talking about building a virtual bar or a proper physical one?

Sounds kinda like the game in the 'First person shooter' episode of the X-Files. Good episode, pretty cool concept.

Tbh, I think this kinda stuff is still some years off yet. Its too expensive to do atm, so it'd be a huge risk. It'll get here, but not yet.

This thread makes me think of the Newgrounds video, I Dream In Retro [http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/538066], which is awesome.

I had a dream once that once every year, the Shroobs from Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time came and destroyed my Animal Crossing village. Was a strange dream, but I can't help but feel that Nintendo missed out on an interesting crossover there.

I think you dreamed about the Mana Bar fighting its evil twin or something.
Yeah you got the right idea!! Sortof!

I was thinking of 2 separate bars, either both located in the same building or separately ( please keep in mind this is just a flight of fancy) This would inspire a type of loyalty potentially that you just don't see in vids right now. There could even be bars all over the country connecting to a server that hosts the gaming content.

Just since I keep thinking about this, I may as well add logistically speaking this would need it's own game, programmed for multiple different inputs (controllers, aforementioned gun turrets etc), designed from the ground up. Hmmm I'll add more to this as I can better describe it.
