This show seems to be more trying to take advantage of the average "nerd" stereotype.

"They like D&D, watching porn stars play D&D is probably more action than they've ever gotten! They'll love it!"

This sort of thing offends me somewhat because of that. Just saying "look, porn stars, watch them do something you like doing" is -not- an adequate premise for episodic content. Perhaps one episode, just as a joke, but making it a whole series is pretty sad.

I expect more understanding of their usual audience from the Escapist.
Yeah I totally agree. I mean they're pornstars, it's not like they're actual people or anything or could otherwise be interesting when they aren't naked...

magicmonkeybars said:
Meaning, you might as well tag line this "Women playing DnD." because that's what this is.
... I this actually a criticism?
... "I mean they're porn stars, its not like they're actual people or anything..."

Wow.. You're a real Gem.
We ARE actual real people. And we read these posts. And when you say things like that, they actually do hurt. We're just having fun playing D&D. Why are you guys being such Jerks about it. It's not like its YOUR game. AND most of you who are commenting don't even like playing D&D, so why would you want to watch people play D&D?

~Satine Phoenix
I think Taz was being sarcastic towards Shadowflame; he supports what you are doing and likes the show.
OH... *Blush* I guess I feel that people actually feel that way though and I got overwhelmed, overlooking the sarcasm. Seriously though, even though it was a sarcastic remark, it sums up what most of the people are saying.

Porn stars or not, I love D&D. I would watch people play even if they weren't in the adult film industry. I'm not sure why, maybe because I like seeing how other groups function to help further myself as a player. I would recommend running a show like this with people that actually know what they are doing. It probably wouldn't go over too well.. bunch of fat greasy neck beard action.

I enjoy this series quite a bit. As an avid D&D gamer myself, one of the elements of the series that really engages me is the interaction between the players. In the sessions that I play, it is the camaraderie among the party and the players that keeps me engaged, so seeing the dynamic in this group is a lot of fun for me.

To me, whether the players know how to play the game or not is largely irrelevant. My problem with this series that it's basically saying that these intelligent men and women are porn stars first with all the stigma that is attached to that.

Personally I couldn't care less what their job is as it has nothing to do with the series in question, and using it as part of the advertising is exploitative at best of both the players involved and the viewers who obviously can't be trusted to think beyond "ooh porn stars! will they be sucking cock between dice rolls?"

Yea, we definitely are taking everyone's comments into consideration. The only problem is that we've already shot two sessions which have been edited prior to the show being aired. So We won't be able to really do the needed changes until we shoot the third session. The lighting is better in the Sessions with Justine. A lot of the people commented that they like the robot chicken guys' D&D game better. Well, Its shot differently. AND Its a different group of people playing it in a different style.
Ok, sounds good. I actually figured as such. Yeah it's important to note that different crews will have different styles, in-fact I think the DM for the robot chicken podcasts actually does that for a living... I've listened to a few podcasts that had him as the DM. Though now I feel a bit odd, considering I watch and listen to D&D games but never played the game myself, LOL.

My main concern with the editing was that it made it hard to follow the game itself, though it's indeed a lot better than in previous episodes.

Do you guys only have the one camera running? If I may ask that is. Perhaps if there were 2 cameras running and perhaps hiring a sound guy or picking up a bunch of mic clips to record the sound of the entire game while jumping between the two cameras will give it that linear feeling that I think people are looking for.

Edit: Made a whoops by cutting out half of your response.. Fixed!

Just googled sasha grey to see her pr0n, shes actually more attractive in these videos than in her video/pictures

Edit: 1) the girls sounded like they got kinda drunk which was pretty funny to watch
2) after disliking the first episode with the usual "wtf is this" im starting to like it, hope for more to come!

That's much the case. My friends and I recently picked D&D back up and have been having a blast. Nothing says a good sess of D&D like friends, laughs, and drinks. The episodes have been getting better, smoother editing? More comfort? It's fun seeing the innovation against what the DM tosses at you.

Haters gonna hate, like Lim-Dul said. [expletive deleted] them. Err, not literally. Well, maybe Jay and Silent Bob style.

Actually, I retracted the first 3 sentences of the statement. The fact is that we have our own style and not everyone is going to like it. I'm not sure about the camera stuff. I just show up to play because I fraking Love it.

Yeah, I would much prefer to see them play Mass Effect or play basketball or something I do like (dunno how the hell those shows would work). Still, I am learning about Dungeons and Dragons from this series. Therefore these videos are educational and count towards my weekly dose of University "studying" - along with reading newspaper headlines and listening to old people talk on the bus.

Its more entertaining than 90% of the shows on television. Mind you so watching my cat running in its sleep. Still, the people are nice, the show is educational and I keep watching it every Wednesday for some reason so keep at it, don't let the bastards get you down and other half arsed words of encouragement.

This series has grown on me. I was unsure at first but Im finding it very entertaining and very enjoyable, the only thing that put me off slightly was that the editing wasn't great, which made the story kinda hard to follow but its improving.
I disagree with some of the statements that 'maybe you have to play DnD to get it'. I've never played DnD and it was fun to watch how groups run their games especially inexperienced gamers.

I'm really starting to enjoy this series; just like real D&D it starts off slow and builds up (much like most of the best things in life). It's getting better by the episode to the point that I'm interested to see what happens next!
The discussion of lube vs flaming oil; priceless!

It's interesting seeing the team dynamics too. While Sasha is debating over blanket size, Satine is just like "How about I throw my axe in it's fucking face".

Really wishing that I had the time to get a group together again. On the other hand really looking forward to seeing who gets a new level and a cool new skill or two. So I'm hooked and I can't say that I'm not enjoying the style and presentation; good job girls and guys!

Its really getting to me that people who are openly slating the show don't seem to realise that the escapist in a round about way is getting behind D&D at the moment, Alexander Macris is currently writing articles on how to be a DM.

Then you have the timing regards the shows "Doraleous & Associates" and "A good knights quest" maybe completely unconnected but I'm definately getting the fantasy in all its forms is a good thing vibe atm.

So in general STOP giving them such a rough time about it I really enjoy playing board games and if at my local group some random guy turns up cause he watched a random video on a web magazine about porn stars, strippers and a hair dresser! (Oh and Zak.) playing D&D and wants to give it a go because it sounds like fun! I will scream a hells yeah for more!

Have you girls and guys considered ever playing Call of Cthulu?

Ahem: Clarification.

I don't care whether you normally play D&D or not. That's not what I was saying.

If the whole idea or the video wasn't focused around the porn part, I wouldn't have a problem with it. If it was really what you're saying, then it wouldn't even mention that, it'd just say "people play D&D".

Which is what it -should- say. It's the fact that it's focusing on the porn job part that I have a problem with it. You can argue that if you like, but I've got no issue with the rest of it.

Well Shadowflame66, as a girl I can say that what attracted was not a chance to see teh 80085 but the fact that "porn girls playing D&D" promised some kind of culture clash--which the show delivers.

Does that make sense to you Shadowflame66?

I've been following the series with some interest. I gotta say that this episode was the best one so far. I'm not sure why people are so offended by the description and concept of this show.

The way I see it's about a group of people having fun and enjoying each others company with banter going back and forth. That this group of people happen to be porn stars, strippers and a *gasp* hair dresser is totally secondary to me that way. That being said, it is still an interesting concept.

And no, I have not played a single D&D game in my life.

OOH! Ok! I thought I had accidentally deleted it when I was making the snip, sorry about that, LOL! No worries then, I tend to throw out suggestions like a pitcher at a baseball game, so don't mind me. :p

As long as you're having fun then more power too you. It's all that really matters in the end. I've been looking to get into a group myself, but sadly, no one in my area plays.

I'm having the same experience I had when watching Unforgotten Realms, I have to stop to lol because something hits eerily close to home.
lol
With Unforgotten realms it was the "I attack the carriage and take it's wheels and use them as shields". I had that happen in a game I DMed and I thought I'd implode.

The blanket bit killed me for the same reason.

As a person who has dated strippers, not as a frat boy who thought it'd be awesome but as an adult who liked the person they were (with their clothes on *gasp*), I can assure everyone that yes, they're people too who have their own lives and are known to like things like comic books, D&D and Star Wars all on their own. Also, porn stars actually have to pay for their pizza when it's delivered, that extra sausage line is only for movies with cheesy 70's music soundtracks.

Our precious geek and gamer culture is on the rise. It's odd to see how xenophobic and protective people can be of that, but considering the treatment it used to get historically it can sometimes be understandable why people can be suspicious and act caustically toward something they think might be exploitive of that.
Par of the reason I've enjoyed the show so far is because it shows strippers and porn stars playing D&D. Why? Because it's good that it's not the typical face that people expect to be presented when they think D&D. It prompts people to think, and thinking is better than blind acceptance of a comfortable stereotype.

People are like electricity, they seek the path of least resistance, I'm usually infavor of anything that might shake them out of that.

Satine still seems like the veteran of the group so I'm still wanting to see more Satine screen time. Behind the shielding anonymity of the internet I can comfortably admit that the force of my geek is so strong that seeing a girl skillfully play D&D with passion is more exciting than her ever having been in porn :p

Of course I'm also the kind of guy that proudly wears a badge for primping a pony so you know...it's give and take.

check out meetup.com for groups in your area. sometimes people are just waiting for a group to pop up. So if there aren't any in your area, put the post out to gather people. That's how we found people to play DD with in Australia. it was surprisingly easy.

It makes sense, except that what she's saying is that there -isn't- a culture clash and we shouldn't be assuming that there is. She said we shouldn't be thinking of those in that industry differently just because of their job.

Which I agree with. That's why I think it shouldn't even worry about the job thing. I think it'd be a lot more popular if it focused on the -personalities- of the girls in the video which are the -real- draw because they're what make it interesting.

Like I said before, it's the presentation I have a problem with, not the thing itself. Focus on the people, not the jobs. If you actually watch this, that's what they do in the videos. They don't make lots of allusions to their work, they're just normal people, and -that- should be the focus of the presentation as well.

So, ShadowFlame66 you're just complaining about the banner ad and the little show description sentence at the bottom of the video window? Seriously? Why do you care?
