Ive always been interested in KOTOR how ever Ive only ever been able to find the seaquel

and it dosnt feel right without playing the first one, plus I hear the seaquel is good but a sad case of what could have been and a little WTF with the ending

Kotor is the next closest thing if you are looking for a sci fi setting but the combat is completely different.

If I may make a recommendation, just try all of Bioware's games. These include Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Jade Empire, Knights of the Old Republic, Baldur's Gate. I think that's all their major titles, I intentionally omitted Sonic Chronicles because it's more traditional JRPG.

All of the titles I mentioned are incredibly well-written and voiced, have deep and lengthy storylines, amazing casts of characters, and offer a slightly different game designs.

I know you can get Mass Effect, Dragon Age at any retail game store, as well as on Xbox's Games On-Demand section. Jade Empire is also a downloadable title, but you won't be able to find it any more unless you get lucky at Buyback's (found a copy at FYE for $7). KOTOR is not a downloadable title, and thats something that you'll have to hunt for. Not sure about Baldur's Gate, but I think the entrie series is PC exclusive.

Hope this helps.
The Baldur's Gate trilogy is available at GOG and it will run on a netbook, as will Planescape: Torment also at GOG.
KOTOR is available on Steam, I don't know where you can find KOTOR 2 though.
GOG and Steam both have Neverwinter Nights, don't be discouraged by the servicable if not great main campaign, the two expansions are far superior, as is a bunch of user generated content.

If you're totally against the idea of classic PC gaming, well your loss...

Yeah, your best bet is to try something like Gears of War. Thats the game the design team wanted to rip off in development, and it plays 90% the same.

Since you obviously enjoyed popping out of cover to shoot enemies for most of the game, Gears offers even more of that, so you should like it even more.

That's a really difficult question, as there is no game like Mass Effect 2, quite possibly why it's won so many GOTY awards. It's an epic.

The only games that I can think of that are as epic AND as "easy" to get (physically paying for/downloading, I mean) as Mass Effect 2 would be Mass Effect 1 (if you haven't played it), Dragon Age, and both Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas.

Kotor 1-2. Its very much like it just more advanced combat/game mechanics.

For just the fps action with very little character interaction and story, Halo 1-3.
