I need a franchise to get into; I am bored.

Hello. For the last few years, I have been religiously playing a single game: World of Warcraft. I played it not for the gameplay, but, for the roleplay. I am a roleplsyer, y'see, but, we shan't dwell on that.

What we shall dwell on is that I am bored as hell of the game. The RP community has gone to shit, and I have never cared much for the game itself, and so, I am seeking a new game/franchise to sink my time into and obsess over. Previously, I have enjoyed TF2, however, that had the 'WoW treatment' of being played until it grew boring. If it helps, I mainly play on PC, and have enjoyed the Batman Arkham series immensely, as well as most RPGs.

Thank you.

It´s kind of hard to recommend a franchise without knowing what elese you have played but here are a couple of easy ones.

Dark Souls (new installment on the horizon) & The witcher.(2 games with a third comming next year)

Both are out on PC, both are RPGs, both have challenging combat(IMO) and both have relatively lengthy completion times. The Witcher is more story focused and Dark Souls builds a great atmosphere.

hope it helps.

Do you like Turn based RPGs? Do you have a DS?

The Etrian Odyssey series is really really fun, and can become quite a good time sink if you get hardcore into it.

Deus Ex 1, or Human Revolution if the whole 13 years old thing turns you off. The original is still a timeless classic though.

Dude, I'd totally high five you if I could. Fucking love that game.

To the OP. You could try Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator. It's an amazing PC RPG with a similar battle system to Chrono Trigger. You could also try Boarderlands 2. I'm not into FPS games and even I love it.

Torchlight 2 is a Diablo like rpg. Very popular.

these two fine gentlemen have excellent taste in video games. i would also like to add fire emblem even though its only for Nintendo. as to your taste in particular killing floor would be a good alternative to team fortress 2.

If you want cute and lighthearted, Kingdom Hearts! Lots of games to choose from and really fun gameplay.
Open ended fantasy/fighting more your style? The Elder Scrolls! The best hour eating game of all time.
Survival horror? Silent Hill! Prepare to hate the sound of sirens if you play Silent Hill...
Classic gamer but you like to see a franchise evolve through many years and many consoles? The Legend of Zelda! My personal favorites are Link's Awakening for Gameboy/Gameboy Color, and Twilight Princess for Gamecube/Wii.
Want the best game of all time and its only real sequel worth noting? Earthbound and Mother 3! (You can also find a translation of Mother Zero online if you're a true masochist because I just watched a friend play that game for a few hours with several plugged in cheats to make it easier and it was still really difficult and so annoying that I could barely stand watching him play! It's still fun to watch what eventually gave birth to the wonder of Earthbound though.)

It's just kind of hard to recommend much if I have no idea what you're into.

If you're a big roleplayer, what genre do you prefer? Cyberpunk? Fantasy? Science Fiction? It helps narrow down my suggestions a bit.

Totally random but I'm going to throw out Shining Soul II, a Diablo like dungeon crawler on the GBA, but with the dark gothic aesthetic replaced by sprites and color.

Someone already mentioned the Witcher series, but I'll second that harder than Microsoft seconding an industry wide no-refunds-under-any-circumstances-even-if-Games-For-Windows-Live-Kills-Your-Mum Policy. There's a hearty recommendation in there somewhere.

If you've never got round to playing Knights of the Old Republic then definitely get into that, the first game is some of Bioware's best work, and while the story of the KOTOR 2 isn't as hot as the first, the game is just as good if not better. Plus, you can get the complete mod which adds various levels and bits cut from the full game to get the whole experience.

Was gonna recommend the Assassins Creed franchise as well, but Uplay has decided as of today that none of my Ubisoft games are going to work because reasons. So I honestly wouldn't bother unless you wanna try em on console, in which case I would start with AC2 and go from there. AC1 is a bit of a slog to be honest.

And if all of that fails, grab up Final Fantasy 7 from steam and go for a full completion playthrough. That'll keep you busy til the end of time.

Most of my options have been mentioned, (KOTOR, Serious Sam, Torchlight 2, Dawn of War etc) So here are a few new ones.

Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas and Skyrim are all RPG's that have massive amounts of lore in-built into them if you are into that side of gaming.

If you want to risk it Grim Dawn is in Steam Early Access, its being made by former Titan Quest devs and is an Victorian Post-apocalypse setting.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. The controls are iffy, the graphics have not aged well, and it requires some serious patching to eliminate the bugs, but in terms of writing, voice acting, characterization, atmosphere, and dedicated storytelling design, it is truly one of a kind.

If you haven't played the Dead Space games, you should. They're great.
