Here is the problem guys, for 4 years I played WoW and that game received a lot of my time and effort. I mastered my classes and I was considered one of the best among my peers.

Life has taken a bit of a turn for the worst, lots of stress, free time coming along and my current line of games are getting boring and I feel like now I should and want to invest my time into an MMO, for stress relief and to waste away some time...yeah it sounds weird.

I am very curious about Rift, it looks fun to play it has my favorite all time class and from what I hear its really good. I want to know your opinion ecapist and I want to know if Rift is the MMO I should give my time to.

So what is it Escapist, should I play Rift and if I shouldn't what other MMO can I play.

Save your money, and buy Guild Wars 2:

Without knowing anything about what you're looking for in a MMO, it's pretty difficult to answer this question with any accuracy. To some extent it seems like you're looking for a MMO for escapism (in which case any will suffice) and validation (in which case you need to see a therapist). But I digress.

Rift doesn't do a lot to distinguish itself from its peers. Aion, LOTRO, AoC and Warhammer all offer roughly equivalent experiences...worse in some ways, better in others. Rift is the newest and therefore the freshest game on offer, and it released with tremendous polish and a nice clean engine. But it isn't a terribly revolutionary or even evolutionary game. You won't find much new there, just the same old routines with a new hat.

Be aware also that Rift has suffered through a plague of security problems over the first month of its release, and they're only now starting to get to the bottom of some of them. So choose a strong password if you do decide to play, and steer clear of any third party programs and sites until you're satisfied they've got things under control.

Rift is more of a polished experience, but it doesn't really do anything new. I'm currently lv.50, and the levelling was decent enough, it became a bit of a drag for me towards the end. I don't really like levelling in any MMO, so Rift's being bareable was a good thing... kinda. You'll generally get pushed through the zones, it's much like Cataclysm's levelling/questing system, where it directs you where to go. The dungeons are some of the best I've seen in an MMO, they look and play really well, and I enjoy re-playing them on "expert" difficulties for epic gear at lv.50.

The PvP is a bit of a mess, at the moment Warriors faceroll everyone with one macro, Rogues are only decent as a saboteur or bard, the former revolves around waiting 6 seconds to prep one huge ass explosion that hits for up to three quarters, if not all of someone's health, the latter is a buff/support type role with huge AoE healing. Clerics and Mages fail at lv50, mainly because you can mana drain them to zero retardedly fast, and Mages are unbelievably squishy. I'm a Rogue, and just the other day I was about to die from a Mage, I was alt-tabbed, and tabbed back in with around 200hp. I used a skill that makes me invulnerable to all damage for 3 seconds, teleported behind him and killed him in like 2 globals, with a few instants. If you're playing for PvP and you want difficulty, roll a Mage, if you like facerolling make a Warrior. They do everything better at the moment, they can even do ranged DPS better than a Marksman, lolwut.

It has a decent amount of endgame content, and for £25 with a free month it's worth it. I've been playing since the head start and I've got more mileage out of it than any retail game I could've bought for the same price.

TLDR, it's a good game, but not really innovative. The talent system is the most impressive thing for me, lots of variety.

It's World of Warcraft with random annoying spawns that can path into areas where everyone is so low they get steamrolled.

I never made it past maybe level 12 in the beta because it was so much like World of Warcraft I couldn't stand it anymore. Like they weren't even really trying to be any different.

If you quit playing WoW because you got bored with it like I did,(3-3.5 years or so here) you do NOT want to even look at Rift.

If that's exactly what you're looking for though, yeah, try it.

Well that doesn't tell me anything, though. MMO's have a lot of moving parts. Do you just want more WoW? Play WoW. If not, what did you like about it? PvE? PvP? Instances? Solo friendly? Art style? Animation? Guild options? Breadth of choice? Large landmass? Questing? Seriously, what? All MMO's are vaguely similar on a root level, but a lot of them do some things better/worse than the others.

For example, if PvP is your thing, Rift is probably one of the poorer choices. If you like fast paced action, you might want to look into DC online. If you're tired of a fantasy universe, why not something like Eve, or wait for TOR?

I'm just trying to help, guy.

A MMO that I hold dear in my heart is Runescape. I hold this close to my heart because I got to spend more time with my parents than ever before (they played as well) also i met a lot of new freinds. no download required and you can play for free or upgrade to membership.

Well, I'm having a lot of fun with [a href="http://vindictus.nexon.net/"]Vindictus[/a] it's almost completely different from the traditional MMO (i.e. WoW and its imitators.) It's also free-to-play (and not pay-to-win like some games) so I'd give it a try or at least look at the website.

I second this, Vindictus is a wonderful F2P game. Action packed, fun skills, and Insanely fun bosses.
Its 'Sequel' (Made long before Vindictus and with vastly different graphics and gameplay) Mabinogi is my all time favorite MMO though.
