So I was asked by a friend of mine to recommend him some love songs of a Metal/ Power Ballad style since his boyfriend is also in to that kind of music. The problem is I am such a gloomy person that I don't really know any.

So can I get some genuine rock/metal/ballad love songs to help him out.

Classical music love songs can also work but I think metal would be cooler for them, though I know there are some symphonic metal fans on this site so go crazy.

This does kind of depend on the subgenre you/your friend is into. Like, there are plenty of traditional love songs and ballads in, say, 80's glam metal but less so in most types of metal since that's not the focus. That said, here's a few I could think of and dug out.

For the slightly more morose angle

The most metal love song because it's about falling in love from the Devil's point of view

I WON'T HOLD BACK ANYTHING! AND I DON'T CARE IF YOU DON'T HEAR! ALL I WANT IS TO BE TRUE AND SAY TO ALL THAT I LOVE YOU TONIGHT!

Hmm...that's...that's tough. Let's see...

...and I think that's the best I can do. Sorry, man; I'm kind of gloomy myself.

This was Tarja's stock & trade back in the day. Next album's coming next month with Floor Jansen, might give it a look.

Damn I can only thing of sad metal ballads at the moment xD
I'm not even particularly sad but Pretty Maids: Little Drops of Heaven, Queensryche: Breaking the Silence might be two, they're not ballads might be the only problem :p

I am SO angry at all of you for not mentioning this one. And no, I don't care if it's overdone, it's almost MANDATORY to mention it:

(I guess this one is a bit same-y to the previous one. I love The Poodles, but that's one criticism I have: Their ballads sound very similar to each other)

Maybe not the love he's after, but Innocent Eyes by Annihilator is a great ballad. Jeff Waters(who basically is Annihilator) wrote it to his son when he was born.

Disturbed's cover of U2's "I still haven't found what I'm looking for" is the only one I can come up with at the moment.

I always liked this:

I like it when bands do something different/unexpected, and it's also a pretty solid song.

Might the Seether remake of George Michael's famous song Careless Whisper find a place in your collection? Essentially, the saxophone is replaced by an electric guitar, and the drums and vocals are closer to what you'd expect from a hard rock song. It's tolerably good in my opinion. The feet are guilty.

Remus posted some great Nightwish love songs (Ever Dream is my favourite Nightwish love song), so here's more.

Not really "metal" in style but still good.

Again, not really "metal" (sounds very "folky") but Marco Hietla sounds so damn fine.

Linking the live version because the original was on their first album and "Beast" is performed by the keyboardist/songwriter who honestly can't sing lol. This live version has Sonata Arctica frontman, Tony Kakko. Everyone else is on their A-Game as well.

Ok, time to break it up with non-Nightwish. Wow, I...don't have a lot of love songs here that haven't been mentioned or aren't depressing.

A bit on the sad side, but one of my favourite Sonata Arctica songs.

A bit repetitive (from their first album), but still alright.

Perhaps the least "metal" song I have, but very pretty.

I have a love song from the perspective of a stalker [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a832buj-2nw] (at least that's how I see it). Does that count?

Killswitch Engage did a pretty decent love song, or well, something close-ish to it:

Its more about love and loss between brothers and all that but eh, the lyrics are neutral enough to be directed more to one's significant other if need be. Very powerful song and video overall though, worth a look regardless.
