As the title says, I think I might be mentally slow, slower than I would like. I just finished my first semester of college, I get B's and C's mostly, and I don't really try very hard in school. Academically I think I'm fine with my usual study strategy of "(metaphorically) headbutt my notes and books until the information is absorbed into my brain."
I just find that I don't react to things properly or quickly. A few examples: One time at church I was sitting in the back of the room minding my own business when a kid with the offering asked me what to do with it (I'm 18 he was like 6). I just kind of shrugged since I didn't know what to do with it. My pastor then calls me out saying to take the offering and give it to someone who knew what to do with it.
another time was when some friends and I were kicking around a workout ball in a room and when I walked in the ball was passed to me, instead of doing the smart thing (kicking it back to my friend), I launched the ball into the ceiling knocking out one of the tiles.
Also when I speak I always stutter or trip over my own words and just sound retarded from my point of view. I'm very quiet and rarely talk.
I have a few theories as to why I'm like this, One big one is that my mom was in a car crash when she was pregnant with me so maybe some brain damage? I was also not active at all as a little kid, I mostly watched a lot of TV or played video games. and you may think "video games should help reaction?" I mostly played video games to make a story, I always like playing CnC generals and coming up with stories like "oh no the chinhook was shot down, save the marines!" So I didn't actually play, I just let my imagination wander.
I've tried remedying this. I'm very active in college. I do fencing, parkour, martial arts (emphasis here), swing dance, and I've tried playing a lot of starcraft which I believe they say helps with your mind.
So I am trying to be social and a little more quick with my mind, but I feel as though I'm not really improving anything.
