So this is an idea I've been fighting with for a few months now, basically an idea for a Zelda MMORPG because Zelda, IMO has one of the coolest stories but it would be pretty fun just playing as a regular soldier instead of the chosen one, Link. Go ahead and read everything, and give me any feedback, positive or negative; I don't really care, I just want to know what people think and if they would play it, if it was made of course. Also please don't be an asshat.

Backstory:
The Legend of Zelda: False Prophecy takes place in an alternate timeline (at the time OOT takes place) as though Link is never born. However because Link was the reason why Ganon was able to enter the ?Sacred Realm? he isn?t able to enter and gain near infinite power. However he is still very strong and still is trying to destroy all who don?t serve him, including the Hylians led by Queen Zelda, the Zoras led by King Zora and the Gorons led by Darunia. Some people chose to follow him, known as Corrupt Hylian led by Agahnim. He still leads the Gerudo people. Also a majority of undead seeks to destroy Ganon?s enemies so they joined with him; they are led by King Igos du Ikana the Poe Sisters.

Playable Races:
? Pure Hylian (Followers of the Three Goddesses): Hylians that stayed loyal to the Royal family. They were led by King of Hyrule (we?ll call him Albert for sake of another name). However when Ganon came to power he killed Albert which made Princess Zelda the Queen. Queen Zelda does her best to lead her people but knows that they are fighting a losing battle.
o Playable Classes: Knight, Lightbringer, Cleric, Mage, Rogue.
o Racials:
 Blessing of Hyrule- Allows you to heal yourself for X% of your health (Activated)
 Loyalty- Increases Reputation gain by X%. (Passive)

? Zora: The Hylians and Zoras while not the greatest allies at all times realized that only with their combined might could they hope to defeat Ganon. They are led by King Zora who was a good friend of King Albert so naturally he wants revenge against Ganon.
o Playable Classes: Knight, Cleric, Lifebender, Rogue, Ranger.
o Racials:
 Adrenaline Burst- Allows you to swim X% faster for Y seconds. (Activated)
 Cold Blooded- Increases you Cold resistance by X% (Passive)

? Goron: The Goron, while a very large and strong race was very gentle and passive until Ganon came to power. They are excellent Blacksmiths and therefore were helpful to both the Hylian people and Zoras. They are led by Darunia who is very gruff to outsiders but knew both King Zora and King Albert.
o Playable Classes: Knight, Cleric, Lifebender, Ranger.
o Racials:
 Curl- Allows you to curl up into a ball to increase your movement speed by X% for Y seconds. (Activated)
 Raised in a Volcano- Increases your Heat Resistance by X%.

? Corrupt Hylian (Followers of Ganon): These are Hylians that chose to follow Ganon and betray their people. They are led by the Mage Agahnim, who is Ganon?s second in command. They are hated by everyone who fights against Ganon.
o Playable Classes: Knight, Shadowbringer, Lifebender, Mage, Rogue.
o Racials:
 Blessing of Ganon- Allows you to transform into a fearsome beast for X seconds, increasing your damage by Y%.
 Traitor of the Light- Increases your Light resistance by X%.

? Gerudo: Ganon is the king of the Gerudo and many of his people are still loyal to him. They were cursed to have a man born once every 100 years; Ganon was the last, however he was to break the curse because he realized that his people might need to produce more warriors for his cause.
o Playable Classes: Knight, Cleric, Ranger, Rogue.
o Racials:
 Excellent Agility- Increases your chance to dodge an attack by X% for Y seconds. (Activated)
 Jack of all Trades- Increases your chance to skill up anything by X%. (Passive)

? Undead: Mainly consisting of members of the ?Stal? family, the legions of undead are as fearsome as they are numerous. While originally not loyal to anyone except their King Igos du Ikana and the Poe Sisters, they joined Ganon?s cause solely because the undead and the forces of Ganon have the same goal in mind; complete destruction or enslavement of everyone not loyal to them.
o Playable Classes: Knight, Cleric, Mage, Rogue, Beast Master.
o Racials:
 Unholy Scream- Terrifies the Enemy causing them to have an X% chance to miss for the next Y seconds. (Activated)
 No Flesh- Reduces Physical damage taken by X%.
Classes:
 Knight- The ?Warrior? class, a master of melee weapons that uses mainly brute force to kill his/her enemy, strong in melee, can do damage or absorb it using their training. Heavy Armor, nearly every weapon.

 Lightbringer/Shadowbringer- The ?Paladin? class, strong in melee, however uses magic in addition to their weapons to do damage or absorb it. Heavy Armor, nearly every weapon.

 Cleric- The ?Cleric/Priest? class, uses magic in addition to doing a medium amount of damage with their weapons, they can heal or do damage, very large and direct heals. Medium Armor, Maces, Axes, Swords.

 Lifebender- The ?Druid? class, uses magic to do medium damage and to heal, uses many heal over times and small but quick heals. Light armor, Maces, Staves.

 Mage- The ?Wizard? class, purely uses magic to do damage, can also have one of several kinds of minions summoned at a time (the looks of minion depend on the race; for example the undead can summon a Skeleton Knight to tank for him, but they can also summon a Poe to do a decent amount of damage). Cloth Armor, Staves and Daggers.

 Rogue-The ?Bandit/Thief? class, can cloak him/herself and do a large amount of melee damage. Light Armor, 1 Handed Axes, 1 Handed Swords, 1 Handed Maces, Daggers.

 Ranger-The ?Archer? class, uses a bow or crossbow to do a very large amount of damage from far away, can melee if necessary. Light Armor, Bow, Crossbow, Swords, Daggers.

Professions:
 Blacksmithing- Can make medium to heavy armor and many weapons.
 Clothier- Can make some light armor and much cloth armor.
 Tanner- Can make some medium armor and much light armor.
 Mining-Allows you to mine ore to make weapons or heavier armor.
 Scavenger- Allows you to scavenge enemies that wear clothes to get cloth.
 Butcher-Allows you to butcher animals to be able to get leather.

Always fun to sit down and plot out a new game idea, eh?

The idea of it is fun but I think too many people are married to the single player aspect of the Zelda franchise. The MMO would ask you to step down from playing the Hero of Hyrule to basically an NPC you'd otherwise be trying to save from Ganondorf. Think of WoW. You jumped from (Warcraft RTS) overseeing as the story unfolded to actually being a part of it and interacting with the major characters (WoW).

Aside from that I think it would draw a lot of players in on the premise of "ah this is neat" but lose them because if you peel off the Zelda aspect you're left with another MMO. All the races and names in that list could be swapped out with 'dwarves' or 'the gnarlx(some generic race name)' and nothing would be different.

Ahh maybe I'm reading this from the wrong angle, but the question I'm asking you would be "What would it be about this game that could seperate it from other MMO's?". What aspects of the Zelda universe could you elaborate on or integrate into the content and gameplay to make the experience unique and interesting?

*edited for clarity

Really great stuff but why an mmorpg? XD sorry, i'm biased against mmos 'll admit it. The thing about mmos is that they need so much content that they tend to convolute their source material which makes me a sad panda :(

I see what you're saying, and like I said it's really basic, all I wanted to do was get the backstory down, the playable races, classes, etc written down. I really just wanted to see what people thought of the story, but I also thought a bit about classes in it, not really sure what I could do to change it from a typical MMO.

Ty for Feedback :)

I dunno, I don't think that an MMO would work well for the Zelda series. Zelda's all about getting various gadgets to solve puzzles and kill monsters in interesting ways. MMO's that I've seen tend to be more dungeon-crawly, with DPS, tank, healer, etc rather than Portal 2-style co-op. An MMO set in a world similar to Hyrule, sure, but that just describes a lot of MMO's that are already out. It just seems like the gameplay would be too far removed from the rest of the series.

Please, god, no. I only read half of it and I don't like it.

It's mainly just that I wouldn't like to see every popular franchise turn into an MMORPG.

Alright, well thank you everyone :)
It wasn't the feedback I was shooting for but I'm not going to rack my brain and come up with more ideas for this when noone seems to care for it. Like I said it was just something I've been working on, hell all I did was add an idea here and there while I was in class and what not. Personally I thought it could have been a good idea but I also see everyones' points, again thanks for taking the time to read it and give feedback.

Lots of good and bad to that. Big problem I saw early on was balance. +swim speed? psh, unless you can spend a HUGE amount of your game in the water, who cares? one dungeon and one "starting area" sucks for a racial. Also, Gorons amd Gerudo were getting the shaft, class wise. 5 For everyone! But yeah, Bek359 and One Hit Noob did a good job of explaining why it'd be hard to get it to go.

I was thinking about a pokemon tabletop RPG but HOLY MOLY the MATHS! That's FAR more work than you could ever do reliably, even with, say, preset formulas in your trusty Ti-80+something. (Or laptop.) Something more like Ranger or Mystery Dungeon would be easier but ... omgs.

[And mind you I've played DnD 3.0+, Star Wars D20, Shadowrun, and V:tM. None of them have maths like the pokemans. It just hurtz. No, I don't liek Mudkipz. Worst water starter ever as far as I'm concerned. And he sucked when I got him in Mystery Dungeon. Booface.]

Well, I'd like this kind of game... so long as it is done properly and not some half ass attempt at one.
Is it wrong though that I'd like to be an evil Zora?
Or one of the twilight people, like Midna?

If a Zelda MMO is made, it needs to be based on... Well, the Zelda series, particularly using the items Link would have gotten. Deku Leaf? Hookshot? Pegasus boots? In MULTIPLAYER? The idea here sounds like any other MMO with a Zelda skin.

Actually, just scrap the MMO idea and give Four Swords Adventures online capabilities, thank me later.
