If You Could View or Change the Past...

So suppose you were given access to a machine to either view history or change it... what would you do? Or at least, see how things would have turned out if you did change the timeline.

For example:

Viewing- July 11th, 1804, Weehawken New Jersey. Specifically, the duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton, so that I would know what really happened on that day... (Both as a history buff and a Hamilton fangirl.)

As for changing the timeline...

A lot of people would want to remove Hitler from the equation and prevent World War 2... but I'm aiming higher by preventing the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, which started the First World War and indirectly lead to the Second.

So what would you all want to see or change?

Wow! It's been a while since this was posted kind off a shame the Forum Games are dead now...

Anyway I personally am not too fixated in the past personally I think I'd rather just be a time tourist, but if I had to choose, I'd probably find out moments in which famous criminals were vulnerable & just go and kill them, mostly just for fun since there'll probably be other assholes that will take their place or something.

Thank you for responding, I was honestly concerned no one was interested... maybe I should move it to the Off-Topic foursquare it would get more attention?

I'd either try to advise Napoleon against deposing the Bourbons and invading Russia, poison Clemenceau at Versailles or tried to get the french to support Litinov's proposal to intervene against Germany remilitarizing the Rhineland. In short, I'd try to save european history from the foolishness of frenchmen

Probably but it's up to you, we had a small group of people that was always here but it seems they've decided to move on and almost no one else seems to ever come by here so I don't think it's very noticeable in this sub-forum, but I don't know if that would be against the rules.

I'd go back in time every time I made unfavorable rolls in the rubbish gacha games I play, and then roll a split second later to see if the results change. If I can't physically go back in time, I'd just nudge or otherwise distract my past self so the timing is off.

Yeah, I'd use it for extremely petty minor things.

I'd also be incredibly curious as to what would happen if I simply... deposited some of our high tech every day items in the past. Where some of the geniuses of the past can find them. Or maybe just wikipedia printouts of scientific theories/formulas before they were discovered. Would they figure it out and advance our technology? Would it accelerate our demise?

the world could have stabilized after ww2. I don't think you guys are thinking big enough to truly effect the grand scale.
I would've made america sure was never[i/] born. Think of all the things it would stop. The cold war would never exist. Terrorists, drug cartels and religious warmongers would never have been legitimized without the funds and weapons provided by the quacks in america (to people within and without american borders. ever heard of "giving a dog a bone?"). The deadline for global warming would be extended by half. Copyright law would not be the abomination it is today that strangles culture and innovation. tech wouldn't be so flimsy if not for "planned Obsolescence" and every phone would be a nokia phone with only one single jack. The British may have even conquered the world and brought order to the globe, if not for the chain reaction set by spoiled offspring. Many diseases could have been cured if not anti-vaxxers,big-med, and the people stigmatizing HIV. Many countries would be hand in hand, instead of at each others throats without american influence.

I'd call it a utopia, if not for one simple thing:

...It would not have anime in this brave new world, if america never were to be. And that my friends is a dystopic future.
