Either that, or it has just opened up a door for stupid people to be stupid in front of others.
That actually might be it.
That is pretty much 80% of the internet; which is why you must be careful about where you go and what you do on the internet.

Well I'm pro-stupidity so 'neh'!

Yeah, I did just use that as an excuse to post the Go Team Retard thing

Anyway, the only way I can explain it is that they believe that if you tell them their information is wrong, they personally take it as you calling them an idiot, which makes you a hostile to them. As utterly stupid as that is.

Someone on Facebook just gave the typical "Romney is going to end womens' rights" spiel and I commented (yes, I know, I'm stupid for doing so) that spouting that kind of rhetoric wasn't helping because it was simply wrong (which it is). I backed up my argument but I won't go into here.
Wait a second, how is saying that stupid?

- Romney is the republican nominee.

- Two of the most important and popular inside the party policies are a human life amendment banning abortion and abstinence as the only form of family planning.

- Those same two policies infringe in women's rights.

So saying he, if elected, would work towards ending some women's rights seems perfectly reasonable to me. Unless you think his whole internal GOP campaing was a lie.

At any rate, calling someone stupid over that? Seems jerkish to me.

Do you ever call someone out on something stupid they say and they treat you like an enemy even if you're on the same "side"?

Someone on Facebook just gave the typical "Romney is going to end womens' rights" spiel and I commented (yes, I know, I'm stupid for doing so) that spouting that kind of rhetoric wasn't helping because it was simply wrong (which it is). I backed up my argument but I won't go into here.

Now keep in mind that I voted for Obama. Next thing I know, I'm getting buried with comments telling me to fuck off, that I'm the one not helping, this that and the other thing. When I told them I had indeed voted for Obama, they told me to be "proud I voted for Obama and shut the fuck up."

So I guess even though I voted for their guy, the fact I call them out on wrong information in relation to the other side makes me an enemy.

Someone explain this to me.

Capcha: Who, what, where.

You tell me, capcha. You tell me.
Well, as a self-proclaimed pirate, (And I don't mean internet pirate, I mean PIRATE! Where be the rum?) I'm alright with occasionally using dishonorable and cowardly tactics to get my way. So I feel I understand where they're coming from. I'm not saying it's right, but I understand. To them, loyalty to your side means not doing or saying anything that might be contradictory to your purposes, even if it's the right thing to do or say. It's kind of like how the Republican party has been trying so hard in the US to suppress voters who are statistically likely to be Liberal. They know it's wrong, they know it's dishonorable, but it suits their purpose so they do it. I will often do things that I would chastise the enemy for doing, because I fancy myself to be right about everything, and I think my rightness grants me the moral authority to do whatever I want to achieve my ends. Yeah it's hypocritical, so I try to avoid being like that. But I'm only human, and all of us are hypocrites sometimes.

It's just way more fun. And honestly never something really getting in a fret about.

And, hey, if everyone was stupid, can you imagine how much fun we'd all be having?
I believe the function of intelligence was to troll the people who don't have any.

OP, I kinda agree and disagree with you at the same time. Like Marter, it's fun watching stupidity occur, but at the same time, it pisses me off. Especially so, when I go onto places like YouTube or try to digest Fox News' news.

If they're stupid its not their fault. They were unfortunate to be born that way. Ignorance in a world where information is easily accessed on the other hand should be met with a hammer.

There's a reason the 'Herp Derp for Youtube' app was made.

There's also a reason I don't use Facebook anymore.

The two reasons may not necessarily be mutually exclusive.

Stupid people can most of the time just be ignored, they are even useful.
Who else will create jobs by destroying government property? See!

Although, people are, at times, beyond head-ache inducing in their behaviour.

Edit, added relevant video.

Sounds like someone needs to do a little facebook friend trimming. I got sick of the idiocy and dropped my list to only people that I'd choose to talk to. All those idiots that I met a few times at uni but never formed much of a relationship with, or that went to high school with me years ago that I don't need to talk to. Gone.

I don't understand the whole 'get as many friends as possible' mentality.

Of course, there is the chance that this person you argued with is someone you do actually want to talk to. In which case I can't help you. I could say 'pick your battles', but honestly, someone should be telling morons not to be so moronic, especially when it comes to picking who's running one of the bigger superpowers of the planet. So fight until you can fight no more!

happens a lot in certain subjects, in particular politics and gender. Very much "you are either with us 100% on every issue from now to eternity or you are against us and you are a worthless piece of scum"

Trying to be a moderate, or even a moderate on X side is NOT fun. Dont know how it is in the other countries, but US is being consumed by blind fanaticism. My own family thinks I am a hardcore liberal even though im right down the middle as an independent (support republicans in some things, support dems on other things) simply because I do not immediately bow down to republican party as a god.

also obligatory LOL facebook comment. I participated in Livejournal back in the day, and that was enough for a lifetime.

It's fun debating with people about their vote for president mattering in certain states. I live in Upstate New York, for example, which means my vote for president is worth exactly squat, NYC determines where the electorals from NY go. When I call people out on stuff like that because they say "every vote matters" you would think I kicked their puppy.

Side note: I did vote because I can still influence reps and senators, just not president.
haha I just had this exact same discussion with my family a few hours ago. Voting in NY state means squat and has meaned squat for decades. All that matters is NYC, the rest of the state can go to hell in the politicians eyes (and they do everything in their power to make NYC happy, mostly by draining as much money as they can from the rest of NY state which is in worse shape and funnel it all into NYC).

If NYC ever became its own separate state, it would be the greatest thing to happen to NY state since the founding of our country.
