I'm beginning to see a pattern with nostalgic comebacks

I don't have enough decades under my belt to confirm my hypothesis, but it seems popular franchises always get revitalized roughly twenty years later. Or the decade after the next, to be more accurate. I probably just confused everyone with that last sentence, so here's an example. Ninja Turtles was popular all throughout the late 80's, but came back with a new series in the early 00's and eventually got a new movie. Transformers and G.I. Joe made this leap as well, though granted I'm pretty sure Tranformer's popularity lasted pretty well into the 90's, at least. And of course, there were new Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies for the first time since the 80's.

Now I realize that's a pretty obvious observation. People have been joking about what old 80's franchise would see a gritty reboot for years, but now that we've entered the 10's I'm seeing things from the 90's already beginning to crop back up. Beavis and Butthead are returning. Duke Nukem is coming back from a long exile. Sonic the Hedgehog is starting to get positive reviews again for the first time in years. Remakes and sequels of classic SNES and Nintendo 64 games are beginning to take us from all sides. (Goldeneye, Starfox, Ocarina of Time, Donkey Kong Country)

It's like we're beginning to move away from reviving 80's franchises and are setting our sights on the 90's instead. I would love to know if any major 70's franchises came back in the 90's, or if the 80's were once known for remaking 60's movies. Am I just being super obvious?

So in an effort to give this a bit more discussion value, is there anything from the 90's you would want to see come back. I want Steven Spielberg-endorsed cartoons to come back. Now. (If you don't know what I'm talking about: Animaniacs, Freakazoid, Pinky & the Brain, and Tiny Toons to name a few)

I always have mixed feelings about it when Hollywood or the gaming industry tries to cash in on nostalgia. On one hand, it's blatant pandering and totally lazy. On the other, it's making people happy by bringing back a little something from when they were young, so what's the harm?

That said, I would be overjoyed to see Mega Man X make a comeback. Specifically, in the 32-bit sidescrolling format. We never did find out, definitively, what happened between Mega Man 10 and Mega Man X1, after all. We know what's implied, but it'd be nice to have the closure.

Oh, and a new Killer Instinct. That'd be great (and not particularly out of place, in light of the fighting game revival going on right now).

While I think that the 20 year mark could be true for like... TV shows or movies, some video game franchises seem to have a much faster turn-over rate for nostalgia factors. Not to mention the countless remakes and cash-in sequels...

But let's see... anything from the 90s I'd like to see back? Uh... Nickolodeon's version of Doug. Oh and Tamagotchis as holograms. HELL YEAH.

Hmm there is something too it, but I think you should say 20-25 years, since a lot of 80s shows are still returning, the infamous My little Pony show for instance.

And wasnt turtles huge in the early 90's and not the 80's?

We also saw the return of Charlie's Angles in the early '00s

Oceans Eleven was a movie from what the 60s?

All in all I think somethings are nostalgia driven, but others are just driven by brilliant ideas...

wtb English remake of Seiken Densetsu 3....

Nostalgia aside, RPGs were actually fairly good during the SNES and PS1 days[footnote]All I really need to cite is the Ogre Battle Saga and Final Fantasy Tactics[/footnote]. Bringing back these titles isn't necessarily a bad thing.
