Edit: I only have a pc, not that I have anything against consoles(ironically was looking at consoles this year and lo and behold the worst consoles to be released so ill be sticking to pc)

Ok well I love alchemy at the moment, just brewing dose potions and harvesting different flora and fauna is awesome. No this is no love for Bethesda post also. I actually loved this from Arcanum and Icewind dale.

So yeh rpg games Ive played with alchemy or uses potions in general are as follows.

Elder scrolls series
Fallout series
Arcanum
witcher series
Icewind dale
Diablo games
Titan quest
Sacred series

I would really love to find something similar to baldurs gate with that same gameplay but with the style of potion making as Bethesda or just simply a Bethesda clone. The problem I have with Bethesda games is the sheer imbalance of enemies if you simply focus your attention on alchemy and not on combat the game punishes you when you want to do a quest against tougher enemies with high level combat skills. (I refuse to lower the difficulty lower than normal/expert as well)

Much help appreciated!

You should check out Atelier series. These games basically revolve around alchemy and crafting and adorable heroines.

The Witcher is for you. Alchemy is center stage in that game. You make potions for special buffs (up to three can be active at a time) like night vision and enhanced regeneration. You make bombs for extra mayhem in battle and you make blade coatings to make your sword more powerful against certain enemy types. It's awesome. The story and the world's a little on the bleak side, but where you find humor, it makes the jokes more amusing (like an alchemist proposing the atomic theory, and you as a player character can tell him off about it).

Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis is good if you don't mind a JRPG as a suggestion. You're a student in an alchemy academy so it's your main focus aside from the story. It's part of the above mentioned Atelier series.

The Atelier series is console exclusive and is literally an RPG centered around crafting using alchemy. If you ever feel the sinful urge to, buy a PS2 and check out the Atelier Iris series. I highly recommend it.

As for PC games...umm...I'm at a loss. Other than the ones you mentioned, the only thing that comes to mind is the average MMORPG. Hmmm...

Oh! Dragon Age: Origins has crafting in it. Potion crafting, trap crafting, poison crafting. So does 2, but Origins' crafting is much better in my opinion. Practically useless though...
