Actually many women, feminists included, find prostitution to be incredibly empowering. Your point, on the other hand, strikes me as completely hypocritical.

"regardless of what a game is actually about, at least some sex appeal can be associated with it."

Yes, this is true. It is called Rule 34. On an unrelated note, I have decided that everything in my life would be better if I added more squirrel appeal. I have begun squirreling whatever I can. I often squirrel things up just because I can. I have found that squirrel sells because everything is better with squirrel, even completely unrelated things.

"Booth babes also allow companies to compensate for the fact that most of them still don't know how to represent women in videogames"

By misrepresenting the majority of them in REAL life. Kick ass!
I actually agree with this 100% I was more or less talking in reference to the idea that a feminist may say that women using there bodies in any aspect can be degrading (as we know many different types of feminists). More or less defending that, my main point is that, I can appreciate a beautiful woman, however its not enough to con me into buying anything.

Women are hot, Women should be proud of being hot. Feminists are stupid when they see a problem with a woman using her body to get money (this being said prostitution disgusts me) cause Women are using something men don't have to acquire cash, to me thats feminine power at work. Anyone who has a problem with Booth Babes are self conscious and sexually uptight.
Excellent answer, my thoughts exactly. And do you ever notice that it's the women that look nothing like women, that are always arguing for the rights of women? Interesting concept I think.

Ever notice how you don't know a single thing about feminists?

They're those things that stand around outside of Home Depot looking for work right?

It was meant as a joke, maybe I should have put a lol or a :) after it then...

I don't see a point for booth babes. If the game sucks then it doesn't matter how good your advertising is. The companies should just use the money to build the product and worry about the advertising later. If the reporters that go to E3 really need to see scantily clad women I think I can find some strip clubs for you guys/girls.

There were some of those at this year's E3, all dressed up in uniforms to promote MAG. Yummy. With a spoon.
But yummy has no O's in it, and spoon has two O's...this puzzle confuses me greatly.

My version of this topic would go
Title: In defense of booth babes
Post: they're hot.

And this is why I don't make posts. Just participate in them

I read the article, and I think it's the first the news article on this site that I disagree with completely.

I really don't know how to phrase my feelings, but I'm going to sum them up as anger and disappointment. Suffice to say that I had no idea what a "booth babe" was until reading this article, which I am mildly disgusted by (there's two words you don't see next to each other much.)

Honestly I don't know why you guys can't have your violence over here *point right*, and your sex over there... *points left*.

As one of the other news posts said, do you really want to be reminded that your Druid could use a mammoth mount while you're watching a porno? Do you really want ads on porn stars? Do you really want porn in games? Don't you already have a tough enough time defending them from several groups? Girls are portrayed bad enough in them, why perpetuate this?

I just don't understand. I read the article and your reasons are iffy at best, and honestly, yeah, it is wrong that a girl can do that and get paid shit tons of money when I can't, or be paid to have sex with multiple members of the opposite sex and I can't, but honestly, as time goes on, it really doesn't look very appealing. :/

I back this article 100%.

Booth babes make the world a better place.
11 out of 12 months in a year people worry about war, famine, terrorism, politics, racism, natural disasters.

But then June comes around and everyone just kind of shuts the fuck up for those 4 special days.
All thanks to Booth Babes ;)

Heres a vid for anyone who wants to see the 2009 women:

Yay for non-puritanistic ways of promoting games! It also makes it much more fun.

I don't care much about booth babes. I understand the role they play in drawing attention to the product in question (or from it, if it's of inferior quality), but most of them look so... generic. I simply don't find them attractive most of the time.

I am not really on the side of this article. They make up for a fine look, yes. ^^

But i wouldn't try to pour much philosophie int that cause i think the beeing of booth babes can be named by a very short sayin': Sex Sells.

And that is all what they are about althougth it is nice if the costumes are done rigth. ^^

I never go to E3 and thus don't care. My favourite part is the game journos who go on and on about the booth babe issue (is it demeaning? is it good for the industry?), without realizing that the general public only sees a handful of photos which are mildly entertaining at best. If I never saw another booth babe picture, I don't think I would even notice.

If a game needs unrelated sex innuendo to be sold, it's not a good game to begin with.

And the argument that booth babes are there as an band-aid to the fact that women don't get fairly represented in videogames is just ridiculous.

Not only it doesn't patch things up, it actually makes it worst, by enforcing the idea that relating videogames with scantily clad mildy hot women is good, instead of relating it to relevant and influential content.

Just because sex sells, it doesn't mean it should be used to that end.

If I want to see hot women, I prefer going to the beach in a sunny day. I can guarantee the sight of many more of those. And better yet, without relating my sexual desire to the content of a well executed videogame, since one has very little to do with the other.

This is the most disappointing article I've read in The Escapist and hope that it's not marking a new standard for writing quality here.

In an E3 forum topic the other week, a user predicted more awkward interactions between fanboys and booth babes.
Microdamus has predicted many things for the future of gaming, but as the future is uncertain, Microdamus maintains that Fester's Quest will make its way to XBLA.

I love Booth Babes, I just hate their Fake Enthusiasm that some of them bring to E3.

Videogames tend to feature an overwhelming amount of men with a few token videogame girls thrown in for good measure.
!??!?!?!?!?!?!

Whaaaaaaaat?

Pardon me, but I was under the impression that a large portion of games today ALREADY have tons and tons of sexified women in them. Maybe not as far as the eye can see, and certainly not always as playable characters, but Hot Chicks are a MAJOR part of the gamer-oriented gaming experience. So bzzzzt, wrong, this is a lousy justification for why there MUST be booth babes.

The rest, okay, that's a bit more interesting. Still, we live in a culture where the objectification of women is an everyday, common thing. And in a culture where many men feel ENTITLED to the right to objectify. Booth babes are fun and sexy, yay, they're back, woo hoo, hot girls and video games, schwing! ...I'm sure that's real great for all you guys out there. Speaking as a girl, I feel a bit alienated. Or a lot alienated. It's plainly obvious who all these games are for, if they're being promoted by dressing up some actresses and thrusting them in the general direction of the gaming public.
