Ended up watching an episode or two (or three...) while I was babysitting my niece. I'll admit it: I liked watching it with her. Anybody has a problem with that, they can take it up with the Ponies. EDIT: Though I will say that Gargoyles, Darkwing Duck, Invader Zim, Animaniacs, the DCAU, and Spectacular Spider-Man are way better cartoons.
You know what else? That Inglourious Basterds mashup was far more awesome than the actual Inglourious Basterds movie. Yeah, I said it, bring it on Tarantino fanboys!

The animation in MLP is top-notch. It may be simplistic but it's damn good and can be extremely expressive.gphjr14 said:

And to answer the why this is popular thing, even though there are plenty of shows as good or better than My Little Pony there's a few things My little Pony has that they don't, for one thing a good cartoon like Invader Zim (which you mentioned) isn't based off a toy-line meant for young girls, and not as many people would be very shocked, disturbed or dismissive towards a grown man for watching it but they would for someone who watches My little Pony, then there's also the obvious memeablilty/memeticness of it.
Also for me I just can't get over the fact that I'm now able to say with an honest straight face that I like My little Pony, which is something I thought would never happen.
So yeah a lot of the popularity is based on the humor and lulz of the whole thing.
