Infafune in Talks for Mighty No. 9 Live-Action Film

Mighty No. 9 isn't even out yet, but that hasn't stopped its creator from talking about multimedia possibilities which he hopes will also include comics, TV shows and anime.

Keiji Inafune clearly has big plans for his upcoming title, Mighty No. 9. While that's to be expected from a game that <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/128377-Mighty-No-9-Becomes-3rd-Most-Funded-Game-on-Kickstarter>took in more than $4 million over Kickstarter and PayPal last year, his ideas are a little bit more ambitious.

According to an interview with Polygon, Inafune sees the world of Mighty No. 9 as being even bigger than that of Mega Man, and he wants to see other creators explore it. "I'd like there to be a comic book, manga, anime, movie, TV drama series," he told Polygon. "Any possibility you can think of."

Polygon reports that Inafune has already been contacted by writer and producer Tim Carter of Contradiction Films about a possible live-action movie adaptation of Mighty No. 9, though so far Inafune's company, Comcept, hasn't committed to working with the studio.

"It's not actually a 100 percent set deal yet," Inafune said. "It is something we are looking forward to and considering the possibilities of."

"We've directly talked with Contradiction about many possibilities and I've talked to them about the large picture, the Mighty No. 9 universe," Inafune continued. He added that story details weren't really discussed between the two companies yet. "I'd rather they see how much there is to Mighty No. 9 and then play on that and make the story even deeper by using many different parts of this big universe we've created," he told Polygon.

While the idea of a live-action movie may have caught some of you by surprise, Inafune points to the success of recent superhero films such as Iron Man, Spider-Man and Superman as proof that somebody could make a movie out of his game. It's not a bad point - after all, Tony Stark blasting through waves of foes with his robot armor isn't too far removed a concept from Mighty No. 9 hero Beck doing the same.

Hold up there, Inafune. Maybe you should wait for the game to come out before you start making adaptation plans.
Yeah, and for it to be good, too. I actually backed this project and am looking forward to it a lot, but such premature flights of fancy don't exactly fill me with confidence.

He has a really good track record and the way I see it is, basically, if Miyamoto were to leave Nintendo and say the same thing, I'd believe it. Same with Inafune.

True or not true, I can only imagine how giddy Inafune is right now, and how much Capcom is cursing itself. ... MWAHAHAHAHAHAH!

I just hope he keeps his priorities straight for the game. Then again, he did say he's interested in seeing how other authors work with it, so I've got hope for a hands-off approach.

Let's just hope that mighty no. 9 is going to be a good game regardless of all the ancilliary stuff.

Ah yes, a cartoony robot boy with huge feet fighting other cartoony robot things is perfect for a live-action adaptation. Unless they're going for one of those dreadful cgi/live-action blends like those Chipmunk and Smurfs movies, because those have had a great track record.

I would say something against the milking of whatever-yadda-yadda, but it's the guy's IP and he can pretty much do whatever he wants with it, and if people like it that much... good for them.

I never played any Mega man games on the NES, or any other for that matter,so other than the possibility of a good sidescroller (if it's even that, haven't followed this at all) seems rather nice.

BTW, title says "InFafune", might wanne change that.

Capcom may tolerate a small account Kickstarter title, but I can't expect them to sit on their hands after this. If the title becomes too successful then Capcom WILL step on their toes eventually. It doesn't help that they can't figure out what to do with Megaman, and now Inafune is making them look bad.

Uh... Why don't we start with a comic/manga and/or anime first (once the game gets more familiarity with its fans, of course) before we start jumping on the "live-action movie" train, okay?

"Baby steps", Inafune... "Baby steps"...

How about, you know...finish the game first? I don't see anything good coming of this considering adaptations without the actual game out first.
