They made a game that players wouldnt want to play as long as the orignal. Why change that now?

Too little, too late.

They already caused most of the PC community to hate them with a passion, and most by now have probably moved on.

And besides, what good are custom maps if you have no dedicated servers to put them on?

Hear hear, how much use will the mods be if you have no control over selection of dedicated servers?
