Inside the Sick Mind of a School Shooter Mod

Only in the mind of the player, as far as the code to write it is concerned, it's the same thing. If it was said that the "teachers" were child pornographers and the "students" were suicide bombers, with out any change to the graphic layout, some would be all "guns ablaze!" in this mod. Bin-Laden is the politically correct "bad guy" of the times, as was "Saddam" in times before, games about killing incarnations of them are fine and raise not a single blip on the moral radar. The maker of this mod isn't advocating killing innocents (based on what I read in the interview) and I'm not saying he is some kind of shock activist with some kind of message, what I'm really curious about is how quickly one can change their view, with the toggle of a texture and some re-written text.

As a point of interest. I wonder how many of you would mind so much if it was shooting monsters for points before the big bad boss monsters killed you?
I'd be fine shooting monsters until the big bads came along. You know why? Because a monster is an entirely fictional creature with no humanity to attach to it, thus making it an entirely blank slate. However children are real, and among the most vulnerable members of our population. So don't try and make some profound argument trying to liken shooting monsters to shooting our young for the sake of fun. Because you sound like a fucking idiot, sir.

I wasn't OK with Call of Juarez; it sucked.

Ponder this if you will those who support this mod:
Imagine a movie was released that was start to finish the wholesale massacring of children as they run screaming, desperately trying to get away as everyone around them is exploding into a mass of blood, muscle and brains. Now imagine the movie is not trying to convey a message or make a statement, it is intended only to be watched as the massacring of children for entertainment.

This mod is exactly the same.

If you think that the movie I just suggested would be entirely fine, then there is something seriously wrong with you. That isn't a throwaway dig. You are mentally broken, and don't even qualify as human.

RANT WARNING

This is... is just wrong. I'm hands are shaking right now. I may be an "games are art" activist, but I still love my mindless fun shooters a la Duke Nukem and Serious Sam. Not every game has to be art.

But this doesn't fit into the "fun" genre. It fits into the "sick and deeply deeply disturbing" genre. There is no good reason for this game to be available to the public. I respect the guy for staying true to what he believes in, but that's it.

He talks about games based on school shootings and bullies in schools "not fun." They weren't supposed to be fun in the first place! The developers made them to educate people that play games who had not heard about these events.

I say we take this guy and force him to talk to people that were present at the schools that this sort of thing happened in. Ask them how they feel about the game. Because as one that was a student at a high school during a school shooting, I don't feel comfortable even seeing a simple screenshot from this.

Doing one, you might as well have done them all. I only ever went there once though, the only kid I liked was the one you had to sell to the slavers, the rest were absolute dicks.
I can actually see WHY most of them were dicks. They had a rather deep rooted bigotry, based on age. However, if you had the child at heart perk most of them were really nice to you.

Except Robert. He can die in a pool of lava for all I care.

Oh yeah, it's easy to see that they resented adults for fucking things up (was it fucking things up or leaving them? I forget). That doesn't change the fact that I hated them for being dicks to me, even after I saved three of their friends and the other guy.

So you're saying that people who play Tomb raider support grave robbery? people who play assassin's creed support killing for money or something. You have failed to notice the core difference with the mod and your hypothetical movie, you can "play" this mod with out firing a single shot, you the player are in control of the situation, you can play it and simply not cause harm to anyone.

My issue with the game is that it would be just as 'fun' if you replaced all the characters with monsters and vampires, or terrorists and bad-guys like any other game. The appeal comes from mowing down the innocent as they flee in terror from you.

Yes, we had this type of thing in games before, but this is controversy for the sake of controversy and it totally halts any momentum the games industry had towards becoming widely accepted as both 'fun' and potentially 'deep'. I don't believe all games should have a meaning and I enjoy games that do not. However, games that reward you for re-enacting the slaughter of innocents by a dysfunctional individual has no fun besides becoming that psychotic individual.

Sometimes - just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Ok, there is a film called the children, which was about kids and adults killing eachother. Nobody complained about that.

Teen horrors. Some of the teens are underage, still "children", and people cheer when they get killed.

In other words, my opinion is different from yours, i'm tired of arguing it

CAN YOU PEOPLE PLEASE STOP QUOTING ME NOW, DEAR GOD THIS TOPIC IS OLD

Sounds like poop of a game. I played Postal 2 and Saint's Row 2 and loved the hell out of those. GTA could suck my balls though, those games were garbage. This game? Meh, I might download it. It seems about as pointless as tetris - see how many points you can get before you lose - and you always lose. Or maybe like those flash games where you kill before you are swarmed or die. It's all just pixels. It's the people playing it that put any emotion behind them.

The guy who they interviewed in the article has his shit together. There are so many fucked up things in this world to get worked up about: pollution, politics, racism, genocide, extortion, rape, murder - video games should be dead fucking last on the list of shit people get worked up about. Talk about fucked up priorities. *sigh* So sad.

Surprised to see so many people morally scandalized by this. No actual children are getting shot when you play this game you know?

So at no point in development, did anyone go "Hey! This might be a bad Idea guys! I mean shooting children in a game!"

Honestly. The world already sees us as deranged, antisocial psychopaths part of the time. Why would this even be a good idea, ever?

Hmm....Okay, hes got the right too make any kinda game/mod he wants...but when he claims that video games/"The best" kind of video games are the ones where you can turn your brain off and let your reflexes take over, he should have been smacked over the head.

I think he has made some damn good points about a large portion of industry. Some very popular games just really boil down to you curb-stomping your opponent and leaving them to bleed out. However, I think he's missing an important point.
There's less of a 'personal experience' or feeling of wrongdoing or disgust when your opponent is described as an enemy who hates your guts. It's a bit different comparing to an innocent classmate. But what about GTA? It's relatively the same thing. You don't have any feelings towards the NPCs and their deaths are over exaggerated and sometimes so ridiculously numerous that there is little connection to the real world. This game? not so much.

Consider some fictional game where your job is to murder someone in the most devious way possible. You simply have a final score or achievement or something but the game has been designed with an extremely realistic look and feel. Every knot you tie, stab you take, or fingernail that you pull out is acted out well by your victim. You literally have to tap X to pull the knife out of each wound as you watch the life drain from your prey. Her expression has changed from begging for mercy to that of confusion, 'why?'.
Would you play this? No of course not, unless you were some sort of cancer to society. But its OK to play GTA because, hey, its not like im hearing her beg for mercy and talk about her unborn child before I beat her with a bat.

The lines are thick and fuzzy, but theres definitely some sort of gradient.

His arguments and responses are sound but creating such a mod are just wrong. Horribly wrong.
I agree this game was made by him so he could get attention from the media, no one in their right mind thinks the victimization of victims is worse than the actul killing and anyone that does is a complete fool, this is just another reason for "Game-haters" to have another reason to ban violent games. to be perfectly honest the guy needs to grow up ¬_¬

I watched the demo, wasn't that bad really, while reading the article it seemed WAY worse, but while watching it, it was just Gordan going Haywire on some resistance with terrible AI until the combine came in to stop him.

Not much to it.

A badly designed Half-Life 2 map with terrible AI (i mean they ran from you if you were too close, but several just started walking when they got a certain distance away) with the named School shooter slapped on.

No idea how this 'mod' generated this much heat.
could've at least added children modals or SOMETHING.
I mean, if your gonna make a troll mode, might as well do it right
