History repeats itself!
All I can say is, if Respawn do an (old school) IW, whatever they produce next is going to be awesome.

All that I can say is that I hope that whatever Vice and Zampella do next does not suck and does well. As for Activision...well they can go suck on an onion.

May Respawn Games live long and prosper.

Somebody's got to stop Robert Kotick before he ruins another gaming studio.

We'll see if West and Zampella can strike gold twice.
I sincerely hope they can, although for Zampella it would be striking gold a third time seeing as the last game he worked on before joining Infinity Ward was Allied Assualt.

I still find the parallels between this and the (less acrimonious) folding of 2015inc over Medal of Honor vaguely hilarious.
It's as if Kotick and Riccitiello are playing pong with their most valuable employees, thwock you have him for five years, thwock, no you have him back. I really hope Riccitiello has learned from the mistakes he made last time that Kotick has repeated and then some.

The problem is, regular people don't even know about any of this, or any gaming politics, so they're only going to know about a decline in quality (if they even notice, which is unlikely), once they've bought the game at which point the sale and damage is already done, doesn't matter if a few regular people dislike it after they buy it, Activision will still be laughing all the way to the bank.

Mid to long-term Activision has all it needs to come out on top. Sure it lost some amazing talent and screwed up the morale in the studio. But given the economic circumstances I'm willing to bet there's plenty of available game designer talent out there, and the product most important to them (MW series) is hardly reliant on excessive innovation, it's a military version of FIFA in this regard.

I say the IW guys should jump ship and head to Respawn. Harmonix wised up, and now it's their turn.

This is probably the saddest part of the whole debacle. It's like watching Evil Corporation Pty. Ltd. buy out the rights to not only Leonardo da Vinci's paintings, but da Vinci himself, and then start churning out new works, painted by some random painter but bearing da Vinci's signature. People don't actually care who made the painting, all they do is look at the signature and open their wallets.

...did that analogy make sense? Anyway, I'm not really big on the whole FPS scene, so MW isn't really my thing, but I'll be interested to see what Respawn Entertainment comes up with, whether it'll follow an entirely different tangent in terms of gameplay, or if they'll make something to compete directly with anything IW/Activision makes.

I do like the new name though. Kind of ironic!
Kind of off-topic, sorry, but I just wanted to say that I love your avatar. I could sit here all day watching that hand...

Check out the rest of his site too, if you don't mind being scarred for life by weird and funky animations.

Hopefully, West and Zampella will get the rights to MW3. If that happens, I think a whole lot of people will leave IW for Respawn because they want to finish what they started. Considering the way MW2 ended, I'm sure the people at IW are anxious to end the trilogy (please be a trilogy)

Probably the biggest controversy in the industry since Interplay collapsed...then came back.

Not a real major concern to me over all. I never have liked anything Infinity Ward ever released. But any sort of blow to a large bloated game company is a plus!
