Insurers Blame Fatal Stage Collapse on Illegal Music Sharing

This is a case where 'logic' can be twisted both ways!

If it is true that piracy has become highly rampant, then why would more people be going to concerts if they already have their music on hand?(and face it, some bands are good on cd, but not so in person) It seems to follow that if people steal their music instead of buying it, then why would they waste money on gas and tickets to see them in person? As such, I put forth that because of piracy there were actually fewer people attending this concert then there would have been otherwise, thus potentially saving lives.

Either case is bull as there is no way to empirically prove either. Also, it's bad stage design and a sudden windstorm that caused the accident.

no, just.... no. there have been live concerts before CD's existed, like the Beatles? woodstock? even if you pirate a CD, you might buy a seat at the concert because you honestly like the band. should I try using this excuse if I get in a traffic accident? "oh, well if more people took public transit, I wouldn't have hit this car?" wait, no, that actually makes sense.... dunno then.

Have a clip of Griff Rhys Jones, House MD and Mr Stephen Fry.

That's nothing. Someone called me a policeman the other day.

Titanic disaster not caused by Iceberg nor poor safety standards, but it was cased directly be America's economic success. If america was a poor country then no one would have sailed on ships there there they could have hit an iceberg on the way.

How could America do this?!? (/sarcasm)

Hang on...that's not what it says at all. Nowhere does the article say "Insurers blame fatal stage collapse on illegal music sharing" They are saying that insurance experts say that concerts in general are larger these days because of file sharing [edit: oh hang on, no they aren't, they say it's because of falling record sales, filesharing isn't mentioned] and therefore if something goes wrong there will be more people in the firing line. Still probably bullshit but really, you are twisting things massively. Again. Booo! Down with your misleading titles! There's some ridiculous spin around here alright.

EDIT: In fact, reading through it again even the shitty, completely quoteless, non sourced original article only mentions falling record sales, nothing about illegal downloading.

I think that white star (the line that owned the Titanic) is based in Britain, and therefore the Titanic disaster can be blamed and Britains success.
EDIT: Wait, you mean people wouldn't have sailed to America? I thought you meant that differently. My fault.

I'm suing Microsoft because when I was at Starbucks, I spilt my coffee on my Laptop.

Makes just the same amount of sense.

Why stop there?

Obviously, if the interwebs didn't exist, people couldn't massively pirate the music these artists produce. But the internets couldn't exist without electricity. Damn you, Benjamin Franklin, for causing the tragedy at Pukkelpop!

That aside, I haven't seen any Flemish newschannels pick up this little tidbit yet. If they do, that insurance company is aiming for a publicity shitstorm the likes of which you wouldn't believe.

The point was to blame any tangential influences OTHER THAN those who actually should have been responsible for preventing the disaster, or the force that caused the disaster.

The organisers should have taken precautions to ensure the life and safety of their customers, both of the Titanic (enough life boats at least) and the concert (a storm-durable stage or cancel the concert with storm weather)

I understood the point you were trying to make (a good point, by the way) I just felt like raining on somedody else's parade by correcting a factual statement (although I ended up being the one being shot down).

Also: You probably already know this, but did you know that many of the Titanic's lifeboats went unfilled? So many people were lost in the confusion they never made it to the life boat.

That is the most bullshit excuse I've ever heard, this better not play out in their favor. It's their responsibility to safely open that stage up, they didn't accomplish that, it should be their fault.

To quote Yahtzee: "There is no middle finger big enough!"

As someone has already said, bands have always made most of their money from live shows, while CD sales pretty much only matter to record companies, so their argument is bullshit from the start.

Then consider that if it really was the case that gigs are more crowded now because of illegal downloads (somehow), then surely it is the responsibility of whoever is behind the show to make sure that the venue is built to withstand common natural disasters such as high winds. If you can make skyscrapers that can withstand massive earthquakes and hurricane force winds then you can sure as hell do the same with a stage.

These bastards are using the deaths and serious injuries of actual people to guilt trip us into giving them more money, and if that wasn't enough they have to insult our intelligence with what is possibly the most backwards argument in the history of time. Never, in all my life, have I hoped for someone to be trolling this badly.
