Well, I knew they were trying to get this done forever, and now that they have, I guess it takes away the lame excuse of "oops I didn't know it would take me there"

Unless you use the random website button.

So does this mean if I wanted to make a Vin Diesel porn site, I could register the domain xxx.xxx?
..Smoothest part of that entire article. Props for you, John. Props for you.

Completely useless.

All sites are not going to voluntarily move to the .xxx domain. They might open up another address there, but they won't leave their existing URLs.

They want traffic. They want you to stumble on their sites and never leave. That's why they pick names that are really close to "real" (i.e. non-porn) sites, and that's why they open up a zillion pop-ups when you get there.

Probably the only two things it'll do is:
1) Make it easier for those looking for porn to find it (not like it's hard to do in the first place), and
2) Give parents/schools/libraries/etc. a false sense of security when they block ".xxx" and think they've blocked all porn.

Well, yeah, but considering the ratio of porn to anything else in terms of # of pages, you've got better chances getting a porn page randomly than losing at russian roulette.

I think I've made a comment like this before, but I'm not sure so I'll make it again.

This is a videogame site, a site for gamers, what does porn have to with that?!?
By that logic you should also be questioning what the Twilight star 'potentially' being related to Vlad the Impaler, or the creation of a bionic cat have to do with the site's core premise. It's just news about something cool/weird/unusual/related in some way to the internet/etc.

"If you've ever wanted to penetrate into the porn industry..."

...I see what you did there!

"Grab your dick and double click for porn...porn...porn!"

I guess that makes sense. It's just that there seems to be at least one news post about porn each day, which is kind of weird.

this is the internet. For it to represent any kind of internet and digital culture porn MUST be present almost all the time. Rule 34. Lol

It also gives parental access-blocking programs a nice "catch-all" blanket to make it harder for little Timmy to get a look at internet ta-tas.

Edit: Since when does Sony have the rights to "The Internet is for Porn"? Because it says that the video is not available in my country because of that.
The Escapist has never been JUST a videogame site. If it were just a videogame site, we wouldn't have an columns [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/anime].

It's a site about escapism and gamer/nerd/internet culture. Most of the time, our news revolves around games, yes, but a lot of the time it also revolves around "stuff that we think is cool and we think our audience will think is cool/interesting, too."

So are all pron sites being renamed to www.pornsitename.xxx or are the staying the same and then new sites are getting the .xxx?
It's just for people who want to use it because they're feeling nice. Just like .com is only for commercial companies and .net for ISPs and .org for nonprofits and no one has ever violated those suggestions and I have a nice bridge to sell you if you believe that.

URLs that will be bought up DAMN fast:
google.xxx
(any celebrity name).xxx
ooo.xxx
goatse.xxx
