I briefly got excited when I read the headline... But yeah. Color be dubious. Without the people who actually made the games, this has the unnerving feeling of a a company hoping to cash in on PC gamers' nostalgia for the original version of the company and the great games they made. I'll keep an eye out to see if they manage to pull off making a good game, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

What?

Those who know the Black Isle brand name will be at best ignore the zombie stuido or at worst start chucking molotovs, While everyone else will look up in vague interest at the molotov throwers before going back to COD or just plain ignore the new company.

First thing that came to mind when I read that: htf is Interplay still alive ?

They must worship Nurgle to be able to fester around so much.

You know what? To counter the pessimism in this thread I'm going to go with a rather hopeful outlook in that I wish them good luck and hope they do well in their endeavors. They may not be the old Black Isle that we all knew and love, but if they can manage even a fraction of the quality that Old BI had then they will be a rare gem in a sea of sludge.

I tend to echo the sentiments here, a studio is the people, not just the label. Heck, I doubt these guys even have a D&D liscence anymore to help them along.

It's sort of like if someone realized Steampunk has fringe popularity that isn't going away and decides that they want to reform Troika to make "Arcanum 2"... without any of the people that worked for Troika or developed Arcanum.

More RPG developers are always good though, I hope they prove me wrong, but honestly it's their product that I'll be looking at, not the "Black Isle" name.

Truthfully for the next great resurgence of single player RPGs I'm looking towards Richard Garriot who apparently said a while back he was going back to single player game design. If he can get back the Mojo that made "Ultima" great, I could see a major success there.

I hope they managed to put together a quality RPG. Can never have too many of those.
Interplay brought me Freespace back in the day, not gonna hate on them because it's "popular" (at least in this thread), more studios is a good thing.
Quantity is a quality all its own is a slogan for a huge army, NOT a slogan for games.

I won't hate them for doing this, however I will remain skeptical of them until a product materializes.

This is interesting, seeing a studio come back to life. Has any other recently come back?

More than "sort of" like it... Given that the founders of Troika were key Black Isle employees who made the original Fallout.

All six of them?

That's funny, I remember Baldur's Gate only having 5 CDs. I remember one of the discs exploding from overheating inside my CD-ROM and me buying a new set.

It is sad that Black Isle doesn't apparently have anyone from Black Isle. Lets just hope the new team is anything like the old one - it would be really good news for RPGs.

Anyone who feels even remotely positive about this has just been trolled by Herve.

Interplay is a festering corpse and this necromancy won't help anyone.

I have been watching interplay's reserrection closely, and because they were one of my favorite game companys back in the day. I really want them to succeed.

Same here, but I don't like what I've seen. At all.

I think the current Interplay might be on the level of EA with their greed and stupidity. They just don't have the same financial power EA does.

Tales of the Sword Coast expansion. Incidentally, the sleeve that came the original game had space for 6 CDs too.

OT: Methinks holy water will be necessary to put this creation to rest.

That being said, it may be possible that this label can let old-school RPGs make a comeback on the heels of Wasteland 2 and the Baldur's Gate remake/rerelease, but I'm not holding my breath.

Right, didn't count the expansion. Also I dug up the original package and it only had 5 slots. I feel betrayed, how come I didn't get an extra slot?

The game came with a cardboard foldout thingy with 3 segments each with two spaces for a CD in each segment.

This [http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/baldurs-gate/cover-art] has pictures of it. I guess you got a different, later version. Or, it wasn't the original American version (judging by the pictures on that page).

Nah, I got the European package (like the UK/Germany versions shown in the link) with a foldout of 5 parts, with 1 slot on each. They cheapen out on us europeans.
