I am tired of the characters in the zombie-stories, you know; the black guy, american houswife, asian guy and so on. I dont dislike the archetypes but I think that they are too common. So my idea is to fix it by adding more to the mix.

I watched The walking dead and I like the production but I am so-so about the characters and the lets-fight-among-ourself-since-we-can´t-act-like-normal-people-since-that-would-be-boring. The walking dead and most other zombie-apocalyps stories feature america and american themes. Thats why there are the archetypes that there are.

please write your idea and then explain your thinking.

Like this:

My idea is to bring in some foreigners:

lets say an exchange student takes the wrong flight to Z-land or anybody else that does not have the same culture. The character does not have to be young but it is a bonus if that character have some survival skills that the main survivors doen´t posses.

As I am a Swede this is a idea that comes easy, and while I watched the Walking Dead I thought; actually, seeing corpses on the street, having your family killed, hiding from foes that want you dead is not uncommon on this earth. Even seeing blood or gore is not strange, how many times have you cut the head of a caught fish (to take away the bones and sush) or hunted elk/deer?

The Evil Genius/Nerd with an army of robots/a couple of robots who was planning to take over the world/start a company that sells various kinds of robots ranging from household robots to military and security robots and possibly was attending some kind of robocon when the zombies came knocking on the door...

the one thing i've always missed in zombie films is a cripple, who survives all the way to the end. you know, a bloke in a wheelchair that he modified for taking on zombies, or something like that

Someone who faints at the sight of blood or a Narcoleptic; they don't last long.

Somebody with a lisp: AAAARRRRGGGHHH ZOMBIEEEETTTTHHHHHH!
A Zombie with a lisp: BRAINTTTTTTTTHHHH!

A leper, who has to be constantly checked to make sure hes alive since there would be no physical change.

I've always thought it would be cool to have the zombie survivors as a group of people who are isolated from society, oil rig workers, miners, or astronauts, and they come back to their area only to find the world completely gone to pot.

They actually had a dude in the book "World War Z" that was in a wheelchair and made it through the whole thing, worked in a armed nighborhood watch thing in cities that were re-taken from the living dead. :D

Apocalypse lover: A person who enjoys the end of society as it means an end to their 9-5, and that they get to smash zombie faces in.
Yes it's the end of the world, yes it's horrible, but there are also some fun bits.
It's the type of person who would stop wearing clothes simply because they could with the social pressures gone.

I'd like to see a soldier actually makes it through a Zombie Apocalypse.

Indeed. I'm rereading through WWZ right now. It solves the entirety of this thread, as it has MANY types of people surviving.

So many zombie films/books/games concentrate on the emotions of the survivors, it would be nice to see one with someone who's completely emotionless (you know, as most of us would be after seeing the world overrun by zombies). Maybe they had some sort of disorder before the appocalypse, maybe they just gave up, but now they're just surviving by instinct, not quite sure why they're still fighting to live. They'd be soft spoken when it's neccesary they speak, but utterly uninterested in talking or other social interaction with the other survivors, and would be utterly deadly when outside since they would never flinch away from putting a round straight between a zombie's eyes.

My friend had a Zombie anthology with several of those types of stories.

Interesting in a sense, disgusting in another. Some people managed to actually fake out zombies, at the expense of abandoning friends and family. Some willingly let people die that they could have helped, just because the risk was too high.

Generally speaking, Zombie stories are supposed to bring out the best of mankind. Emtionally dead is not that.

Small compact male, fit, knows how to fight.
Wears glasses, very handy, always helpful.
Lacking in leadership skills, quiet and calm, berserker-like aggressiveness.
Prioritizes survival, will never quit.

Broad, middle-height male, very fit and knows how to stalk and hunt
From the Scottish highlands so he's fit as a fiddle and can run over anomalous terrain for several hours nonstop.
Leadership skills never needed, has always relied on tight community and family
No previous contact with outside world apart from FM radio before WWZ
Friendly and amiable, just don't insult him by any means.
