Iranian State TV Aired Medal of Honor Gameplay, Thinking it Was Real

//cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/1280/1280305.png

Video that Iranian state TV claimed showed six ISIS soldiers being killed was in fact gameplay footage from Medal of Honor.

Well, this is awkward.

Video that Iranian state TV reportedly recently aired, with the claim that it was footage of a sniper shooting and killing six ISIS soldiers in under two minutes, was actually just gameplay from EA's 2010 shooter Medal of Honor.

As reported by France 24 [http://factually.gizmodo.com/amazing-footage-of-sniper-killing-isis-fighters-turns-o-1759896281], one press agency added some extra details, claiming that the Hezbollah commandos were using the Arash, "a 20-calibre anti-material rifle made in Iran."

Here's a comparison of the video that has been circulating, and gameplay from a Let's Play video, uploaded in 2012, from the part in question in Medal of Honor. It begins at roughly the 2:40 point.

It's not immediately clear where the video originated or how it was able to find its way onto the news.

Maybe some reporter got busted playing an infidel game, and made up a story about how he was reviewing footage of soldiers in action, using specialised remote controls.

I think we should 'leak' them some footage of America's new supper weapon, Liberty Prime, see if we can get that onto the news.

I really do wonder how the hell this actually happens in major news companies.
Smaller outlets like this website is one thing, but if you're getting footage from LPs on YouTube, you'd think a Editor or some kind of middle management could catch it before it blows up in someone's face like this.

I don't know why, but I'm reminded of how a major Lebanese network uses the theme for MGS2 for one of its political talk shows.
Middle Eastern TV is weird.

Saudi Arabia and Iran? Aren't those two (plus other parties) having some complicated issues right now? This looks like a failed attempt at fuelling public emotion. Seems weird for both countries to air the same bullshit. Unless their media is as binary as ours. What is the intention though? What emotion are they pushing?

Seriously? Well... that's awkward. Oh wait, you already said that.

I have no words then.

Dunno about Saudi Arabia, but in the case of Iran, showing a "Hezbollah" sniper using a locally manufactured rifle to efficiently kill members of a fanatical Sunni militia would presumably be pushing something like "Yay! Go Team!"

BWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!
Oh, that is rich. It's not even hiding that it is the MGS2 theme. I couldn't even remember what the theme sounded like when I clicked play, but instantly recognized it as soon as it started up.

A really obvious attempt at it, too. I mean at least the US wouldn't be talking about how the gun was manufactured in the US. Once you start advertising that sort of thing, the propaganda becomes insanely obvious. It's like the whole Kim Jon Un was born under a double rainbow nonsense.

Yeah I got curious as well so i took a look at the sources. And i think this may be a mistake. France 24, the original source, only mentions Iran and states that the snipers were supposedly Arabic speaking hezbollah.

I think Gizmodo may have gotten confused as they mention both Iran and Saudi Arabia without giving any sources, besides the France 24 article and a link to an iranian newssite that showed the video which was also included in the france24 artice.

Yes, it is cause for thought. I have no knowledge of Iran's use of media and if it as fruitful as our own. This reeks of a an overzealous journalist with a set agenda and unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately for everyone other than them) no skill or brains whatsoever.
To be perfectly honest, i find this a more pressing problem. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/feb/17/radioactive-material-stolen-in-iraq-raises-security-fears ...i mean, it all points to an inside job. No matter how generously you look at this. What US company could be THAT stupid? Not some silly source-blind opportunist.

These people might know how to use technology...

But since they are being kept stupid by their own totalitarian goverments they dont understand technology.

They have little to no understanding how the world works outside of their country, since the religion thought police makes sure that only those that blindly believe in the dogma of the ruling class actually get anywhere.

So its not surprising that they show a clip from a game and think its the real thing... because they honestly dont know any better.

I guarantee you they knew it what it was and were purposefully misrepresenting it. It is something they do on the regular.

This is actually completely off base. Iranian's tend to be very cosmopolitan and understand world events better than the average American likely does. There is a strong secular sentiment in the country and the veneer of strict Islamic law is one painted on by the ruling mullahs. Do not believe everything you see in the media, as the older I get the more I realize that the media tells the story that either benefits its corporate owners or that they think will appeal to readers.

Source: I've lived in Iran.

Okay, guys. This is your clue that it's time to stop pursuing total graphic realism. You're actually starting to fool people and it could lead to some bad shit.

What next? Final Fantasy summons depicted as new WMDs?
I would bet more on "US city in mayhem after a non-believer maniac gazing everybody and a vigilante in bat disguise rolling over people in the streets".

Incidently, that would be awesome.
