I've been thinking about getting an original Xbox, since I've never owned an Xbox console. Is it worth getting?
Speaking of game pass, do you know if PlayStation is getting something similar? I thought I heard something was in the works but I am not sure.Imo no, it is dated tech and finding one in good condition will be harder than finding a new xbox at retail price. Additionally even if you got one, repairing it if something goes wrong will be much harder, finding games will be harder.
If you want an xbox get a series s, and sub to game pass, youll be able to play lots of older games off that subscription with improved performance and you will end up with more bang for your buck.

It's been rumored that they are improving their existing service. They do have a Playstation Now sub that is like gamepass but it doesn't have the same number of games available right now.Speaking of game pass, do you know if PlayStation is getting something similar? All the more reason to not bother with it. You can emulate the original Xbox on PC if you really want but again, it's not worth the hassle as the good stuff has been mostly remastered or rereleased at this point. You are better off picking a next gen system and playing old games on that instead.I've been told that if I want an original Xbox, I'll have to take out the clock capacitor.
And I would recommend getting anything but a 360. Yes, it's backwards compatible, but it's also a massive pile of shoddily manufactured crap. Not only was the RRoD a major problem, but the disc drives are also very shoddy and are not easily replaceable since they have their own flash memory that locks it to one specific console.I'd say no. I got an Xbox 360 without ever having an Xbox, and was able to play every Xbox game I got on the 360. That, and in this age of downloads, there aren't that many Xbox games that haven't had re-releases in some form.
So, short answer is no, and if the answer is yes, I'd reccommend getting a 360.
No, they aren't. While there are promising emulators for og Xbox and 360, they're still very work in progress. Some games will work, most won't.Been awhile since I looked but OG xbox emulation was pretty advanced, iirc even most 360 game are playable on emulation nowaday.
Yes, removing the clock capacitor is highly recommended for most og Xbox models except some of the very last production runs. If not, it will eventually fail, spilling battery acid all over the console's main board, and that's no good. It's not difficult tho, and you can find good step by step guides for it online.I've been told that if I want an original Xbox, I'll have to take out the clock capacitor.
So I'll be the resident psychopath here and say everyone else is wrong because I am the superior retrogamer, and I say it is. There's a ton of great games. Additionally If you want to just play the original Xbox library at large yes you need to just get an OG Xbox, only a small portion of the library is backwards compatible 63/997. Emulation has just reached basic functionality. It'll be years before it reaches most of the library.I've been thinking about getting an original Xbox, since I've never owned an Xbox console. Is it worth getting?
I would also get Kameo: Elements of Power. Its one of those underrated gems and since it didn't sell well, no one talks about it and it will probably never get a sequel.I thought I would get an Xbox Series S, because it's backwards compatible with so many games, and it's cheaper.
But, since I only want original Xbox games, I'll just get an original Xbox.
I plan on getting Halo 1 and 2, KOTOR, Ninja Gaiden,, and Fable.
Go for it, OG Xbox games for the time had an actually good library. And some games that were multiplatform like Grand Theft Auto and Prince of Persia played better on XboxI've been thinking about getting an original Xbox, since I've never owned an Xbox console. Is it worth getting?
Indeed, it has more. It's been rumored that they are improving their existing service. They do have a Playstation Now sub that is like gamepass but it doesn't have the same number of games available right now.
Get Fable: The Lost Chapters, instead. It's better.I thought I would get an Xbox Series S, because it's backwards compatible with so many games, and it's cheaper.

Oh true 360 is still iffy, but OG seems to have pretty good compatibilityNo, they aren't. While there are promising emulators for og Xbox and 360, they're still very work in progress. Some games will work, most won't.
I remember trying Xemu some time ago, and a lot of games indeed worked, but they also kind of ran like ass. It's been a while tho, maybe they've had some breakthroughs since, and performance is now up to snuff. Will have to check it out again.Oh true 360 is still iffy, but OG seems to have pretty good compatibility
