Hi, again. So, I finished watching a playthrough of Infamous: Second Son. And I want to know: do you think Delsin is a good character, as in a three dimensional fully fleshed out human being that goes through a character arc?

I ask this because, I've always been fond of the delinquent archetype and I want to know what makes it effective. In the past, I've loved Yusuke Urameshi from Yu Yu Hakusho and wanted to see more characters like him.

I'm wondering if Delsin is that character or he's just being cool for the sake of being cool and appealing to the target demographic. I liked the relationship between Delsin and his cop brother and the fact that Delsin was voiced by Troy Baker. But, I'm not sure where the fine balance is between developing a mature character comes from while maintaining an immature image. For example, what separates the Delsins from the DMC Dante's, otherwise known as 'Donte', of the world?

The other method would be to mature the character completely, such as with Kanji Tatsumi (also voiced by Troy Baker) and have the character throw away the immaturity.

So, is Delsin a good character?

Maybe. I think there is more depth to him if you play evil. He gets a neat little arc where he starts off as kind of a hero, but by the end he kills what he wanted to save.

Not really, no.

Just like every other character in that game he feels like all talk. Sure, he talks a lot, but none of it fleshes him out in any way. But then the performances feel way too loose and improved to establish character.

While I had a big problem with the writing and story, the characters were more of a minor thing.

Deslin was ... well he was too cocky and up himself. I would expect him to die, but unfortunately he is the main character.
The relationships he was in felt fake. So no, I did not like him, it just seems he fits in with the rebel hipster stereotype.
Debatable I know, but my opinion is opinion.
They really needed some conflicts and events to judge his character, and to improve it.

Now the other characters ... bleh.
Fetch was okay, I did not like her design.
Eugine ... stereotypical Nerd. Really?
And Cop Brother Reggie, not bad, not bad at all.

As I keep saying though, Infamous Second Son was quite the disappointment for me. Sure, it was fun in parts, but it has no good story and motivation. The powers are somewhat similar ... and ... well it doesn't stand up to Cole and Infamous 2.

Sorry for going offtopic, but just talking about Deslin makes me rant about Second Son's faults and what SP should have done
Deslin though ... I knew I wouldn't like him when they released the first trailer/teaser.

I haven't played Second Son yet, but I'm not really liking the vibe he puts out, he just seems to have a bit of that pompous "too cool for you" vibe, and while I certainly prefer it to Cole McGrath's generic hardened gritty vibe, it's still not really my scene. Although like I said, I haven't played it yet, maybe he has a decent arc that rounds his character out a bit, I'll have to play and see.

Although I still hate his character design, I think they were trying to make a character who would have believably come to their own in or around Seattle and they determined that the best way to do this would be to use every Seattle stereotype under the sun, I'm half surprised he doesn't have an alt outfit with a scarf and blocky glasses.
