On another note: Disney "bought" Prince Of Persia and is making lego with it!

OT: Sorry, I had to clear it up.
Okay, I think it doesn't really matter. I mean, that pose isn't copyrighted or anything. Its used a lot in other forms of text ( including movies, which is a form of text in a very twisted way) I think they purposely did this pose but didn't know that Prince Of Persia had done this too. Heck if I made a game or movie, this pose would be a must-have for one of them! Its say Bad-ass all over it!

Bottomline: Coincidence in the sense of Prince. Intentional in Pose.

I actually just think it is a coincidence.

Doesn't seem like its not something that could be coincidental

I think the character looked like that anyway and they just decided to pose him so all the comic book fans (which are most likely gamers, too) are like "OMG, PoP ref".

A little OT but does anyone by chance have a real answer to who oliva munn is playing? And yes i know she was joking when she said she was cast as war machine...she was joking right? I heard rumors of Black Cat, and using it as the spiderman/another avengers tie in for the near future

Iron Man or Whiplash, doesn't change the image itself being a pretty clear copy :p

This is definitely ripping off Prince of Persia.
If it is impossible for the staff of Iron Man to have come up with this on their own then I have one question.

How on earth did the Prince of Persia staff come up with their image? It obviously had to have been a rip off of something else since it is impossible to have this design originally.

yeah even I could tell that wasn't Iron Man, and I have no idea who whiplash is. That's just bad journalism.
Did you even read the article? Or do you just have a crippling fear of parentheses? He flat out says that it's Mickey Rourke as Whiplash at the end of the first paragraph. The title is referring to the poster ripping off PoP, not the character. /rant

Anyway, copied or not, it just looks cool.
I had actually read the article before the "it's Mickey Rourke" was added in. But it seems to me that the article isn't that well thought out like if there was a game that came out ten years ago with the main character having his arms outstretched on the cover the Passion of the Christ would be Ripping it off. The article was actually substantially changed from the first one I read where the writer was wondering why Tony Stark would get rid of his metal suit grow dreads and have laser whips. Yes he thought that the person in this poster was Tony Stark. That shows a Massive lack of research into the story and that's not journalism just blind speculation.

I don't care. Iron Man was a great action movie. Easily my favorite superhero movie that isn't Watchmen, and my pick for Best Movie 2008.

Anyway, I fail to see why a sequel with such an excellent pedigree (thus far) would want to resemble what will probably be a crappy video game cash-in. Van Gogh didn't paint the Mona Lisa to resemble a cave drawing. More likely it's a hint at some of the awesome action we can expect from a guy who wields Jet Light Sabers. I'm also looking forward to that team-up that was hinted at in the first movie.

mm no Im gonna go with coincidence. The covers dont look particularly similar to me.
Having a copy of the game right beside me, you're wrong. They're quite similar. Yes, the blades of the Prince's swords are pointed up while Whiplash's energy whips are pointed down, but you can't really pint whips up. It's not an exact replica, but it is damn close.

Nah, I think you're looking into it too much. A triangle composition is often used in art for its strong lines and promoting the eye to be drawn to a specific point, many famous works of art are structured this way. The outstretched arms draw the eyes to the face. It's not pure coincidence or intentionally copying, just basic design structure.

Seen poses like that a billion times; Mountains out of mole hills.

Who is this scraggly, long-haired man, and what is his connection to businessman superhero Tony Stark? (Answer: It's Mickey Rourke as Whiplash, the film's antagonist, but pretend you don't know that - I certainly didn't).

What do you guys think: Intentional, or is this just a coincidence?
1. When I saw the picture, I thought Jesus, is Iron Man on drugs in the new one? Not that Downey Jr. has ever done that much drugs...oh wait.. Don't feel bad for the mix-up, Mickey Rourke looks like Downey after an exceptionally bad bender.

2. Blatently intentional. If it isn't, then they ripped off the same themes or source that Persia took from.
As for all the tools asking why, the answer is simple: With PoP coming out, Iron Man get's to cash in on PoP's posters for additional enticement. Hell, there's even the possibility that this is being used to help PoP advertising. It doesn't matter that Iron Man is badass, or that these are even from different distribution companies. Advertisers think like this, and will cut deals at times.

3. Ignore the whack-jobs giving this article crap, I thought it was bloody good, slightly tin-hatted or not. Not every news story is ground-breaking, some are just eye-opening a little.

many of you can't seem to read, because he says its NOT iron man (which is blatantly obvious to start..)

anyway, i think just coincidence. certainly not piggy backing. Iron Man 2 can hold its own just fine. that look is a very ominous look, and prince of persia wasnt the first place i ever saw something like that. i can't pinpoint any other options to look at for you, but that "hair over part of the face, arms to the side, pissed off bad-ass" look is something i've just seen a lot of over the years.
