A friend of mine told me about this old game i should buy and told me that they would probably have it in a shop that specialised in old games. i said first that i did not have the consol to play it and that i didn't think they had it. So just for fun we made a bet. i said that they didn't have it and my friend said that they had it. I was wrong bacause they had it. Then i rememberd that he had the game and as a joke i said "It would not suprise me if this is your game". My friend said "So what, it would not be cheating, you still lost the bet".

Now i wonder what you think of this line. Is it cheating if you fix a bet to win?

Personally i think what he said is bull****. if you fix a bet you cheated and should not win. The only reason i acepted defeat was because he got a lot of friends to tell me that it was not cheating.

Oh hoh, this reminds me of some good old nostalgia filled moments.

A friend of mine recorded a TV show and was going to bet one of his friends on which team in the TV show would win. My friend already knew who won and who lost but the other kid didn't know this.

I think that sounds a tad like cheating...

Yes it is cheating because the bet isn't a really bet if he's got something planned toward his advantage. It just becomes a one-sided fight

I think it amounts to insider trading. You aren't actually betting anything if you know the outcome will be in your favour.

If you just know you're right, then its not cheating.

Pre-determining events in advance is cheating. For example: agreeing with a jockey that they lose a race, so that your horse wins.

To be fair the place could have sold the game before you had gotten there. Think of it this way, you took the bet presumably because you were confident that the place wouldn't have that particular old game (my guess would be that it's because the game is hard to find) he took the bet because he had recently placed a game into the stores inventory. He still had a chance to lose the bet, if they had sold it or if they simply didn't stock it yet. So while what he did was unfair it wasn't really cheating

It's cheating if only one person involved in the bet has that kind of inside knowledge. If both have then one's just being pretty darn stupid.

Like this once, a friend of mine actually made a bet with me saying that the Large Hadron Collider would destroy the world as soon as it was turned on. At this stage I had to point out several things to him: Firstly, the moment they turn it on nothing is going to happen as it takes a good while to accelarate those particles. Secondly, placing that kind of bet makes no sense. Even if he was to win, he wouldn't even get to rub it in my face on account of dying. Needless to say I accepted when he continued to suggest doing that bet, but I couldn't find it in me to actually charge him something.
Pigeons would agree with him as they have attempted to destroy it.

Unfortunately (for them) they mistook an innocent piece of bread for a bomb.

To make it more simple, imagine if you're betting that a coin will go heads. Now, if both people don't know how it'll go, then it's fair. If the coin is rigged as to make a result desirable for one person, that is cheating. If you've gotten information in advance some how that the coin will go heads when you flick it, that is still cheating because the whole point of betting is for one man to be right and one man to be wrong, both having polar views. So if you've taken the correct one, you've doomed the second one to lose.

However, personally, if someone is making a wager against you, saying the coin will go tails when you know for a fact it'll go heads, it's probably fair since the person initiating the bet should of known you'd know better.

Ahaha this was so funny when you "guess" the episode coming after. Made you the coolest kid on the block.

It is only cheating if one of the parties involved did something to make them win. If you enter a bet and you know your going to win just because you know that your right its not cheating, but if you do something to make your self right then its cheating. If your friend had just seen that the game was available there and told you get it and you said it was not there and bet him then he didn't cheat. However, if you entered a bet and then he took his copy their and traded it in just so they would have it when you went to check then that may be cheating.

Yeah that's cheating, making a bet that you know you're going to win is like taking their money.

Quoted for truth. Also, depends on the stakes. If it's just a friendly bet with your mates, then cheat away, but if it's on something serious, then I think it's wrong.
