Is porn sexist? Yes, but so what?

Now, for some reason, there always seems to be that question circulating (especially among the more vocal, for lack of a better word, antisexual - or just right-wing - people) around: is porn sexist? To be honest, I think that's a stupid question. If we're deconstructing the actual definition of "sexist", then yes, porn is sexist. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. That's the fucking point.

Porn, and sexual fantasies in general, are designed to be nothing more than whack-off tools, not extended commentaries on how that particular person views women, or men, for that matter. The world of fetishes is large too, so you could make a case for porn being sexist to men too (maybe not as much, but still to an extent; just look at the amount of disembodied penises with little to no focus on the man, or the submissive male in femdom).

Basically, you can't help what you're turned by on, and just because you like to get off to sex maids and androgynous girls doesn't mean you advocate slavery and/or the degradation of women in all/most aspects of real-life, or you're a gay person in denial, or something. In fact, I'll be somewhat controversial here, and extend that to some people who like lolicon and shotacon not necessarily being paedophiles, since there is a difference between drawn/animated porn (e.g. hentai) and realistic porn. Of course, the realism of drawn/animated porn can vary.

The majority of porn is aimed at Straight men.

To make it less sexist they'd have to do things that'd squick out the majority of the people watching it, like focusing on the men participating in the act rather than the women.

After the success of 50 Shades of Grey I think it is safe to say women would rather 'read porn' than 'watch porn'. I suppose people wouldn't know what you were up to at a glance?

I personally would rather look at the M&S magazine when the men's latest business selection in. :)

Just want to advise you, this thread is probably destined for stormy waters and then locking. Consider yourself forewarned.

To be fair, I like when both parties at least look like they're enjoying themselves. Sense I'm not the kind of person who would pay to watch that kind of stuff, only a fraction of what I watch is... erm... you get the idea.

On a side note, who else would have loved to be on that ship? Must have been an amazing sight. Everytime I see that image I feel like I missed out on something.
I'll bet you could film an interesting porno on it. /onetrackmind

Porn isn't sexist . There is porn for anything and everything for everyone. If you can't find what you like , you're doing it wrong . Only reason people think porn is sexist is because the first thought people get is of a guy pounding a girl. You can't just take one part of a whole and judge the entire thing. There is porn for men , women , homosexuals, transexuals , transgenders , asexuals and everything in between .

I like how legal porn is sometimes called out on being degrading to women when said women are consenting adults who made their choice to get plowed on film so I don't really see where the argument is coming from. Nobody is forcing the women or men to fuck on camera.

That said, there is a lot of forced pornography in third world countries that should really be stopped. Sex trade and what have you

So... peopel not actually having sex? Because unless the whole point of asexulity is that you aren't interested in sex. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how asexual porn would exist.

OT: Most porn is produced for the male gender, and most particualty for straight males. Thus, it focuses on the women. Of course they're going to be sexualised and nothing else, because its porn. Anyone who thinks otherwise and that it's sexist because its not otherwise is quite frankly a imbecile. (No, I don't mean you, OP.)

I question the assertion that porn induces a rape culture, or degrades women. Anyone with sense could know thats not how most women act, and those that do will find out pretty damn quickly it isn't the case.

Yet there will never be enough.

I tend to have issues with rape fetishism and s&m, but the latter isn't wrong in my eyes, only the former. However, there is a worrying amount of the former, and that is bad.

Sure women act like that. Maybe the ones you like don't, and that's fine, but if you want a girl that acts like a porn actress, it's probably easier then you think to get one. Just don't expect EVERY girl to act like that, sort of like how you wouldn't expect lots of people to act in various ways.

Everyone has a right to be happy with their sexuality. If a guy's dating a girl, and he wants her to do things like on the Porn, he shouldn't expect her to, but barring things like marriage and babies and all that stuff that can stitch two incompatible people together, she shouldn't expect him NOT to want those things, unless he can also lord over the things SHE likes and dictate to her which things she's allowed to like. So if there's trouble in the bedroom, there's bound to be trouble down the line. Better off just finding someone you're compatible with and breaking those relationships apart.

That probably sounds a lot harsher then I meant. Basically, everyone should be free to experience this world in whatever way they choose. You only get one chance to experience the world, and your chance is usually pretty brief.

Oh, I know. I was just saying that most don't, and people don't expect them to (despite what those feminist-peoples keep saying). And if they do act that way, good for them. They can.

Just I've heard a lot of people against porn claim it produces the unnatural attitude in men that all females are some kind of sexdolls that always want it, and I have never felt that was accurate at all (that is, either viewpoint).
[small][small]My god, that was a terrible sentence.[/small][/small]

I've never really thought seriously about buying a suit before...

OT: Uh...wha? I dunno. Is all fruit...grapes?

I think that you're hinting at the truth. Porn is an unrealistic portrayal of the opposite sex, in most cases. Women seem to get the same thing out of certain book-series and rom-coms. Men aren't as commited and outgoing as they are(or end up being after the inevitable epiphany) in these books and films, and women aren't as much...fun...as they are in porn.

Yay for fantasy?

Who told you porn was sexist? It's not. Both men and women have porn. Hell feminist don't argue porn is bad they argue about what the work connotes. Its not sexist but something like women not having power in sex or women being sexual objects (for both sexes) can be conveyed and that is sexist.
