Is Resonance of Fate a hard game?

I'm look for a good RPG for the PS3 to play because I'm pretty lacking in that area in my collection and I was wondering how Resonance of Fate was? Everywhere I look it goes on about it being extremely difficult, and not in a way that it should be.

It's got a steep learning curve. And the fights require some planning/strategy and knowledge of the battle system and the items at your disposal. I never found it difficult in a way that it shouldn't be: if I lost, it was almost always because I made a misstep in my strategy, and not because the game was just being pointlessly difficult.

Really, I found it difficult in exactly the sort of way a game should be difficult. I'd say you should get it. It's a great game.

It's not really difficult. The first few chapters will be once you get use to the battle system, because you can't "hero run" every turn unless you plan out your attacks a bit.

There's really only one or two "Hard" fights in the entire game, but I found it fun enough to play through about 3 or 4 times. Oh, and the escort quest, but there's an easy way to prevent the statue from taking too much damage.

Here's a hint to deal with the difficulty: Customize your guns as much as you can.

Nothing too bad, in my opinion. It just doesn't have the world's best tutorial system, so I (as well as most people I know that have played the game) lost the first few random battles spectacularly. But each time you get a bit closer to winning, and then, once you do, that third or fourth fight- boom. You've got a good handle on things.

It can kick your ass at times. It's not as hard as, say, Demon's Souls but still pretty difficult.

All it takes is a good strategy and positioning. Also, upgraded guns wouldn't hurt. A good grasp of the battle controls would have helped me. I tried my best at the Arena tutorials but there was still much to learn. Always be sure to have health kits on you at ALL TIMES and to never use up all of your hero points in one battle. I learned the hard way.

There isn't really a plot the first few chapters but i'm sure it's in there somewhere.

A Good RPG if you are looking for one. I couldn't recommend it enough.

So I take it the tutorial is pretty shitty?

Hehe, yeah a ten barreled, five sighted, three handled gun with 150 rounds is fun to play with.

Less shitty (though it is partially that), more... difficult to find. It's in the Arena, which I assumed was a sidequest like it is in every other video game ever, and so I totally skipped it to go wandering about. And even once you find it, some of the explanations for the controls are rather badly worded.

The game is pretty fun, right up until Chapter 4, the escort mission. (for me at least) I still haven't beaten it. :/ The logic of that level makes no sense too. >_> Why exactly do they want to destroy that statue in the first place? But other then that, as others have said, have a good strategy together and you'll do fine!

Oh, well also, the game is different with it's leveling system, leveling up almost doesn't even matter except for it lets you equip more mods to your guns and gain some skills that give you a very slight edge in combat.

EDIT: I forgot to actually put an opinion lol. It's a great game, but more difficult then average.

Yeah. I never was able to beat those damn escort missions.

But the 10-15 hours I played were pretty challenging. Then came that shit that just said FUCK YOU.

The learning curve was the hardest part. The tutorials sucked.

I liked the game quite a bit, and it is a bit of a rocky start as far as learning the game. Once I figured out what I was doing I found it to be rather easy.

Though I have to admit, I got to the dungeon bit, that is basically a chain of fights as a run-up to one of the last bosses, and constantly failed against the boss. I tried it a few times, got tired of the massive string of fights to just get to the boss. I figure I was just doing something wrong, but I've never gone back to try it again.

It's worth picking up if you want a good rpg. It has some humor, its challenging, and if you have the patience, very much replay-able. Especially once you unlock the special dungeon when you get to the final boss dungeon.

I happen to think that the game is pretty damn fantastic. Just picked it up on a whim one day and never regretted it since.

Like the others have said, it's a bit more difficult from the beginning than most RPGs nowadays but once you're used to the way the combat and customisation systems work then it starts to flow together pretty well.

One thing I will say though is that a few of the bosses have a 12-inch difficulty spike right up the ass. Chances are you'll die a few times at first but it really is one of those games that takes dying a few times at to get to grips with.

it's not too hard, you just have to teach yourself how to play the game because it certainly doesn't tell you how to.
and while the battle system was fun i stopped playing because it lacked variety for me.

This. It's only hard when you have no idea what you're doing. Once you get a handle on the battle system, it gets better, and once you fully understand it, you'll be kicking serious ass.

For example, I got SCHOOLED by the first boss. And then on my third try, I managed to get a lucky win (he was about to heal using this can thing, and as soon as I a saw that, I was able to blow it up in his face, taking out all his armor, giving me the advantage I needed.)

The second boss? Owned it. Third one? Not too hard. Fourth? Died once of twice, then realized what I had to do, and killed it in 10 seconds flat.

Once you have a strategy, and you know how to game the system, you are in business to do some serious damage.

For the record, I haven't gotten past chapter 5. I usually game on my SD TV in my room...which makes the menu flicker like crazy and give me a headache, and I can't use the big HD TV in the living room as much as I'd like right now...so...It'll be a while befor eI get back to the game.

Tips from someone who scraped through it:

1) USE MOLOTOVS. They saved my ass. All the enemies there are weak to fire.
2) go for the high damage guys first.
3) Worst case scenario, I think you can stop the statue from moving if you stick someone in front of it.
4) MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FIRE AMMO FOR THE BOSS. Make sure your machine gunner has it. Have him fully scratch damage the boss with it. Then molotov it just to be safe.

played it for a few hours. basically it is a grind-tastic game. if you're into that sort of stuff, it might be for you. otherwise, i would recommend staying away from it.
